Field Applications Scientist

Job Overview

The Field Application Scientist (FAS) provides technical support for the development and implementation of complex products/applications/solutions.  Uses in-depth product knowledge to provide technical expertise to sales staff and the customer through sales presentations and product demonstrations. Assists the sales staff in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and may prepare detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions. May create detailed design and implementation specifications for complex products/applications/solutions. May build a mini-application based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demo for client. May provide consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation.

Primary responsibilities for this role include: 

  • Provide technical consultancy on the use of mass photometry in different applications.
  • Foster increased product usage and support sales efforts through technical presentations, product demonstrations and running customer samples.
  • Production of post-demo & sample job reports
  • Presentation of experimental reports in collaboration with the Technical Sales Specialist
  • Design experimental plans in collaboration with the customer, and manage the administrative tasks leading to successful completion of the demonstration/sample job
  • Accompany sales representatives in customer laboratories to provide technical and applications
  • Assistance
  • Contribute customer feedback (report on competitors’ products) to service and marketing, for
  • future improvement of our product and services.
  • Support regional marketing initiatives alongside sales.
  • Assist in creation and review of technical literature and training resources.
  • Contribute to maintain accurate customer support information in our CRM (Salesforce)
  • Communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Provide basic and advanced training to customers.
  • Seek out and provide market and applications knowledge to help develop new applications on existing technology and improve existing technology to become new product

We are ideally looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics or other relevant subject (or equivalent experience)
  • Driver’s license and vehicle required, as this territory requires a lot of driving.

Knowledge and Experience 

  • Advanced working knowledge of company products, competitive products and market.
  • Beginner level knowledge of selling strategies and methods.
  • Outstanding English communication skills.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Experience (basic to advanced) communicating with different audiences and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required.
  • Experienced Field Applications Scientist preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in a variety of bioanalytical techniques.
