Purpose of the role:
Proton is growing fast as more people worldwide seek greater control over their online privacy. To support that growth, we're hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team on one of our upcoming products.
You'll join the engineering leadership team, helping turn technical strategy into execution and contributing to a more privacy centric internet. We're looking for an Engineering Manager with a strong mobile focus. That means a track record of building and scaling customer facing mobile applications, in B2C or B2B, for millions of users on iOS and/or Android.
Beyond technical depth, our Engineering Managers bring strong people management skills, clear communication, a business mindset, and genuine empathy for customers.
Requirements:
- Experience leading and growing engineering teams of 10+ engineers in a fast-paced product environment.
- Proven success managing fully remote and/or distributed engineering teams, with strong operational and communication practices.
- Demonstrated ability to partner closely with Product and Design on strategy, roadmap planning, prioritization, and execution. Comfortable challenging assumptions, driving alignment, and translating ambiguity into high-quality product delivery.
- Strong technical foundation in mobile engineering, with deep expertise in Swift, Kotlin, and/or Rust.
- Hands on technical leader with experience in mobile architecture, debugging, release management, app performance, and engineering trade offs.
- Experience building and scaling consumer mobile products with 1M+ monthly active users (MAU).
- A track record of delivering measurable impact, with clear examples of improving metrics such as user growth, retention, release cadence, product quality, reliability, engineering productivity, or team effectiveness.
- Experience operating in a high-velocity mobile development environment, with a strong focus on release predictability, engineering excellence, app quality, and disciplined execution.
What we are looking for:
- Direct exposure to features such as presence, channels, notifications, sync, low-latency messaging, or engagement loops.
- Track record improving release cadence, crash rate, ANR rate, app-store review quality, or release confidence.
- Experience hiring and developing engineering teams.
- Experience spanning both webapp/desktop and mobile (iOS and Android teams), or client plus adjacent backend ownership.
- Demonstrated ability to balance speed, quality, and high engineering standard in fast paced environment.
Bonus points for:
- Rust experience.
- Experience in collaboration, social or other real-time communication products.
- Background in privacy-first, security-focused, or mission-driven products.
- Experience with end-to-end encryption, secure communications.
- Experience in community scale or multi device products where reliability and sync are critical.
- Experience building high impact open source solutions.
- Experience in applying AI in sustainable manner in the development and test process.

Compensation:
- Paris: 83,000 - 106,000 EUR gross annually
- Other locations: Compensation will be discussed during the interview process
- Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and previous experience.
