The Role

As VP of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in managing and scaling a diverse, internationally remote engineering team. With a strong product focus, you will set the vision and confidently articulate the technical direction internally and externally. Creating a culture of excitement, curiosity, and innovation, you'll challenge the conventional and ensure everyone embraces change and agility.

What you'll be doing in the role

• Strengthening and innovating on our current platform
• In collaboration with the CTPO, define the technical strategy and platform modernisation roadmap
• Leading the modernization efforts to enhance the stability, resilience, performance, scalability, maintainability, extensibility and security of our platform
• Champion engineering principles and best practices, ensuring consistency and quality across projects
• Oversee the engineering teams, taking ownership and accountability for the quality and delivery of their output
• Actively seek out opportunities to improve the pace and quality of delivery, leading the implementation of improvements to the way we work.Drive innovation, fostering creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to solve complex technical challenges
• Manage a 24/7 running platform, ensuring high transaction throughput and system reliability
• Mentor and coach teams, scaling productivity and nurturing a high-performance culture
• Lead the implementation of the product and technology roadmap to support business growth, with a focus on shipping speed and product quality
• Build a strong engineering culture of high performance that is customer-centric and thrives on solving customer problems and shipping code to production
• Where necessary, you will effectively manage the performance of underperforming team members to ensure that the overall engineering team remains strong and high-performing
• Working closely with your engineering managers and technical leads, you will ensure that the technical solutions, architectures and designs of each team align with the overarching company technology and product strategy
• With a You Build It, You Run It mindset, you will champion a collaborative DevOps culture where teams support the code shipped to production
• You will understand the architecture, codebase and services your teams works with, actively engaging in technical workshops and facilitating technical decisions that reduce complexity without introducing undue technical debt
• You will champion our principles, ensure our communities of practice are well established, and contribute to the improvement of our product development culture 
• In support of our growth, you will lead the hiring, on-boarding and training of new team members

What you’ll bring to the role

• Proven leadership experience, coaching and mentoring teams, and ideally scaling engineering teams in a cloud based eCommerce or SaaS environment
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality
• Experience in setting solid technical architecture and strategy to support business growth
• Track record of speeding up product delivery while maintaining high quality and scalability
• Experience and understanding of modern engineering practices
• Strong analytical skills for conducting system analyses and implementing best practices
• A commitment to building and embedding a high-performance culture aligned with company values and engineering principles
