Finance Assistant
About us
The Role
PhysicsX is seeking a full-time Finance Assistant to play a key role in supporting our rapidly growing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or someone in the early stages of their career to build strong foundations in finance and accounting, while gaining hands-on experience across core finance processes.
You’ll be closely involved in the day-to-day running of our finance function, from transactional processing through to supporting month-end close, with full training and guidance provided. You’ll be working as part of a small finance team of three that has been built from the ground up, giving you exposure to how a modern finance function is structured and scaled in a high-growth business. This role is ideal for someone keen to pursue an accountancy qualification (ACCA/ACA) and develop their skills across both transactional and management accounting.
Salary range: £25,000 - £28,000
Responsibilities
Day-to-day transactional finance:
- Managing the accounts inbox, coding and processing supplier invoices.
- Preparing and assisting with bi-weekly supplier payment runs.
- Employee expense processing and checking compliance with company policy.
- Supporting customer invoicing, cash allocation, and credit control.
- Assisting with supplier and customer onboarding.
Month-end and reporting support:
- Preparing journals including accruals and prepayments.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Performing reconciliations (bank, supplier, customer, intercompany).
- Assisting with the preparation of management accounts and month-end packs.
- Helping to investigate variances and provide commentary.
Continuous improvement:
- Supporting process improvements to strengthen controls and efficiency.
- Assisting with the implementation of cost control and departmental reporting.
- Taking on ad hoc finance projects as the business grows.
What makes a great candidate
- Recent graduate or early-stage junior accountant, ideally studying or interested in studying ACCA/ACA.
