Product Manager – Infrastructure (IaaS / Sovereign Cloud / OpenShift)

Basel, Switzerland

About Phoenix

Phoenix Technologies delivers sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure, managed as a service or fully on‑prem, built on open-source platforms. We provide secure compute, storage, and networking; GPU clusters with AI model serving; and HSM‑backed key management, strengthened with confidential computing and attested enclaves for privacy, protection, and compliance.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Product Manager to own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of our infrastructure portfolio, including OpenShift-based IaaS/private cloud capabilities and related platform services. You will define and execute product roadmap, packaging, and go‑to‑market for regulated and sovereignty‑conscious customers (public sector, financial services, healthcare, critical infrastructure).

Core Mission

Make Phoenix infrastructure easy to buy, easy to adopt, and easy to operate—delivering hyperscaler‑like onboarding for AWS/Azure/GCP customers while differentiating on Swiss sovereignty, privacy, and protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own product roadmap, and lifecycle (plan → build → launch → iterate → retire) for infrastructure offerings.
  • Translate customer outcomes (sovereignty, predictable cost, migration safety, operational control) into clear product requirements.
  • Lead cross‑functional execution with engineering, operations, security/compliance, support, and product marketing; drive release readiness and adoption KPIs.
  • Define commercial packaging: tiers, SLAs, quotas, reserved capacity options, and cost‑to‑serve targets; partner with Finance on unit economics.
  • Develop onboarding and migration motions for customers coming from AWS/Azure/GCP, including landing zones, reference architectures, and automation.
  • Own the OpenShift (OCP) platform experience: tenant models, cluster offerings, node pool shapes, upgrade/patch lifecycle, observability standards, and day‑2 operations.
  • Drive ecosystem integration: Terraform modules/providers, SDK/CLI flows, CI/CD and GitOps patterns (Flux), and portal workflows.
  • Provide competitive and market insights (pricing, positioning, feature parity), validate claims, and equip Sales with defensible collateral.

Hyperscaler API & Onboarding Focus (Required)

You should be comfortable designing products around the primitives customers expect from hyperscalers, including:

  • AWS: EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch (and common migration patterns from AWS to private/sovereign cloud).
  • Azure: ARM/Bicep concepts, VNets, Managed Identities, Storage, Monitor/Log Analytics.
  • GCP: Compute Engine, VPC, IAM, Cloud Logging/Monitoring.
  • Infrastructure automation: Terraform-first onboarding, tagging/FinOps constructs, quota workflows, and identity + network bootstrapping.
  • Define packaging standards using Helm charts (chart repos, versioning, promotion across environments).

OpenShift Technical Fluency (Required)

You should be able to collaborate credibly with platform engineering and customers on OCP topics such as:

  • Core OCP/Kubernetes: clusters, namespaces/projects, RBAC/SCCs, services/ingress, operators, upgrade channels.
  • Storage and networking on OCP: CSI, storage classes, CNI patterns, network policies, multi-tenancy isolation.
  • GitOps & pipelines: Flux (primary) workflows, CI/CD patterns, and environment promotion (Argo CD familiarity a plus).
  • Optional but valuable:
  • OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) for VM-to-OCP transition and hybrid VM+container estates.
  • Own the VMware to OpenShift migration experience (discovery, landing zone, OpenShift Virtualization/Migration Toolkit, cutover patterns, rollback).

Security, Sovereignty & Compliance

  • Design for Swiss/EU regulated customers: residency, auditability, encryption controls, and separation of duties.
  • Partner with security teams to productize controls: customer-controlled encryption (BYOK/KYOK), HSM/KMS integration, and confidential computing where applicable.
  • Ensure logging, access controls, and operational processes support ISO/SOC-style evidence and incident response.

Qualifications

  • 3–8+ years in product management for infrastructure, platform, IaaS, cloud, or enterprise software.
  • Strong foundation in compute, storage, networking, virtualization, and capacity/availability concepts (HA/DR, RPO/RTO).
  • Demonstrated experience working with engineering and operations teams to ship and operate production platforms.
  • Hands-on familiarity with hyperscaler APIs and customer onboarding/migration patterns.
  • Technical fluency with Red Hat OpenShift (OCP) and modern cloud-native delivery (GitOps/CI/CD).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English; German is a plus.

Preferred

  • Experience in sovereign cloud, confidential computing, HSM/KMS, or regulated industry deployments.
  • Familiarity with GPU infrastructure and AI model serving as an adjacent domain.
  • Experience with product-led enablement: documentation, reference architectures, and sales/SE enablement assets.

What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)

  • Deliver a hyperscaler-onboarding blueprint (AWS/Azure/GCP landing zone mapping, Terraform modules, portal flow).
  • Publish an OpenShift platform roadmap with clear tiers, SLAs, and day‑2 operational standards.
  • Ship at least one measurable ‘friction remover’ (e.g., automated onboarding, migration helper, self-serve provisioning).
  • Improve onboarding time-to-value and product adoption metrics for a target segment.
