Senior Product Owner – PSP Financial Systems

Barcelona

We’re PayRetailers, and we offer cutting-edge payment solutions that empower businesses to succeed in Latin America & Africa.

Our collaborative and inclusive work environment encourages creativity and growth, where every employee's contribution is valued.

About the Role

As a Senior Product Owner for PSP Financial Systems, you will lead the vision, design, and execution of mission-critical financial infrastructure products, such as our PSP Merchant Subledger and merchant-facing financial tools. This role bridges business, finance, and technology — driving strategic product evolution while ensuring operational excellence and precision in financial processing.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, architecture, finance, and commercial stakeholders, owning the product backlog and roadmap while acting as the key functional authority for merchant ledger systems, balance management, fees, payins and payouts.

What You'll Do:

  • Define and drive the vision, roadmap, and priorities for the PSP subledger system and other merchant financial tools.
  • Align product strategy with business goals, compliance requirements, and operational needs.
  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle: discovery, definition, delivery, and optimization.
  • Translate complex financial and transactional concepts into scalable, reliable product features.
  • Design data models and business rules for financial movements: sales, refunds, MDR, fees, chargebacks, taxes, FX, payins and payouts.
  • Ensure alignment with event-driven architecture for real-time balance updates and state consistency.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders from finance, operations, and compliance to gather insights and define business requirements.
  • Act as the functional point of contact for developers and QA teams throughout the SDLC.
  • Clearly communicate trade-offs, product decisions, and delivery progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain a well-structured product backlog with user stories, functional requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure traceability between business needs, technical solutions, and delivery milestones.
  • Partner with engineering leads to drive high-quality delivery through agile methodologies.
  • Support integration with upstream and downstream systems (e.g., transaction processors, general ledger, reporting).
  • Review and contribute to test planning and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure functionality meets business expectations.
  • Monitor and evaluate product performance; proactively identify improvements in system accuracy, financial reconciliation, and operational workflows.
  • Stay abreast of evolving standards in financial systems, ledger design, and local payment regulations.

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience in product ownership, business analysis, or product management in payments, fintech, or financial systems.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex financial or ledger-based systems at scale.
  • Deep understanding of merchant acquiring, settlement flows, fees, FX, and financial reconciliation.
  • Experience with event-driven or microservice-based architectures.
  • Strong skills in Jira, Confluence, and product documentation.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish (Portuguese is a plus).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver impactful, scalable products in an fast-paced agile environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field. Certifications in Product Management or Business Analysis (e.g., CSPO, CBAP) are a plus.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Experience with specific accounting standards relevant to payments is preferred by not essential.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based financial systems.
  • Knowledge of SQL for data analysis and querying is preferred but not essential.
  • You think like a product strategist but execute with the precision of a financial analyst.
  • You can break down ambiguity into clear decisions, and balance product impact with financial correctness.
  • You lead with curiosity, empathy, and discipline, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
