PayOS: Business Development Lead

About Stitch and PayOS 

Stitch is a payments infrastructure company on a mission to make it easier for enterprise businesses to connect to the financial system and build better experiences for their customers. We are expanding the team to enable Stitch to broaden our product offering and extend our geographical footprint.

Stitch has decided to grow our team in a modular way through small focused, self sufficient business units. Each business unit operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Stitch Group interacting with other business units through arms length supplier/customer agreements. The founders/managing directors of Stitch Group oversee the operations of all the business units.

PayOS is a new Stitch business unit. The team is building a payment orchestration system that will enable businesses to connect to multiple payment processors, payment methods, payouts rails in different markets, as well as benefiting from routing, reporting and reconciliation technologies.

Business Development Lead

As a Head of Business Development at PayOS, you’ll be responsible for our GTM strategy and sales execution. This role is pivotal in driving PayOS growth by formulating a GTM strategy, generating new business, closing strategic deals, and shaping our product roadmap through customer insights. As the voice of the customer within the organization, you will play a key role in ensuring our offerings align with market demands and deliver exceptional value. You should thrive in an early-stage environment, take ownership, and be highly comfortable with ambiguity and rapid changes.

You will be responsible for leveraging different teams across the Stitch group to leverage existing relationships with international enterprise merchants, existing marketing assets, comms, as well as product and engineering. As a result you will need to be a strong communicator that can work cross functionally.

The ideal candidate has designed full-scale GTM strategies and executed on it, as 1st or early sales hire at a high-growth, high-velocity tech company. 

Key responsibilities

  1. Deeply understand payments in Africa and the Middle-East. Payment orchestration knowledge is a plus. 
  2. Deeply understand customer need by spending time with prospective and existing customers, sales and support and observing patterns/trends across their feedback and the market 

Pipeline Creation & Management:

    1. Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to build and manage a robust pipeline of potential customers and partners.
    2. Leverage your network, research, and outreach strategies to generate qualified leads.

Deal Closing:

    1. Take ownership of the end-to-end sales process, from initial outreach to negotiation and closing deals.
    2. Develop and nurture strong relationships with key decision-makers at prospective and existing client organizations.
    3. Achieve and exceed revenue targets by closing high-value strategic deals.

Influencing Product Roadmap:

    1. Act as the voice of the customer internally, sharing insights and feedback to influence product features and improvements.
    2. Work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure customer needs are addressed in the product roadmap.
    3. Proactively suggest enhancements or new products based on market feedback and trends.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

    1. Collaborate with marketing, product, and customer success teams to align on strategies and optimize customer acquisition and retention.

Early-Stage Leadership:

    1. Be a key contributor to strategic decisions and overall company growth.
    2. Work closely with the leadership team to shape the company’s long-term vision and direction.
    3. Demonstrate a high level of adaptability and problem-solving in a fast-paced, early-stage environment.

Requirements

  • Experience: 7+ years in business development, sales, or partnerships, preferably in the fintech, financial services, or API-driven product space. Knowledge of the payment industry in Africa and the Middle-East is required. 
  • Track Record: Proven success in building and scaling business development pipelines, closing complex, high-value deals, and contributing to business growth.
  • Early-Stage Comfort: Experience working in or with early-stage companies. Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with a high level of ambiguity.
  • Customer-Centric: Deep understanding of customer needs and a track record of influencing product development to better serve the market.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide teams in a fast-growing company.
  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to grasp and explain technical concepts, particularly around APIs and financial technology.
  • Relationship Building: Excellent relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to influence key stakeholders both internally and externally.

Advantageous

  • Strong network and content knowledge in the Fintech, Banking, Payments and Orchestration space
  • Strong knowledge of customers and customer needs in various key markets - including Africa, Middle-East and Europe
  • Strong understanding of developers and what makes a good developer experience
