pawaPay is a pan-African fintech enabling local payment channels used by the mass market to both local and international merchants. We operate in a highly regulated, partner-driven environment and are in scale-up mode, with ambitious growth plans across multiple African markets.

Through our payments API we already facilitate over 4 million transactions a day across 20 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.  We are the largest PSP on the Continent for the processing of mobile money payments, and have positioned ourselves well to lead the payment space as it grows over the next decade.

What is the role?

As the Head of Integrations, you will own our integration delivery engine end to end, ensuring integrations are predictable, well-communicated, and scalable. You will operate as both a senior individual contributor and a leader of an integration team.

The role is open to applicants in Europe and Africa. 

Your main duties will include:

• Own delivery of 30+ mobile money and 20+ banking integrations across Africa
• Build and maintain a clearly prioritised integration roadmap with dependencies, risks, and timelines
• Ensure early identification and escalation of blockers and delays
• Take accountability for successful, on-time launches
• Act as a senior, credible counterpart to banks, mobile money operators, and third-party providers
• Manage complex, slow-moving external stakeholders while protecting pawaPay’s priorities
• Work closely with Partner Success, Treasury, in-country Managers, Compliance, and Legal
• Serve as the connective layer between Sales, Legal, Compliance, Product, Engineering, and Operations
• Ensure priorities are clearly understood across the organisation.  Own the end 2 end delivery working with the internal stakeholders.
• Provide consistent, senior-level communication on progress, risks, and trade-offs
• Design and implement a repeatable, scalable integration delivery process
• Identify and drive opportunities to leverage automation and AI
• Move the organisation from ad-hoc execution to systems-led delivery
• Ensure launches are predictable, controlled, and free of last-minute surprises
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of project managers
• Raise standards around ownership, communication, and execution
• Build a team capable of owning integrations without senior leadership intervention

You’ll be particularly well suited to the role if you have: 

• Led multiple complex programmes simultaneously requiring coordination across internal teams and external partners
• Delivered technical integration projects that directly impacted customers, requiring coordination of multiple partners
• Experience working across African markets
• Demonstrable expertise in running multiple simultaneous integration projects
• Operated in environments with regulatory, contractual, and third-party dependencies
• Experience in fast-paced startup or scale-up environments

We’d also love to see experience of:

• Fintech experience (payments, banking, or mobile money)
• Demonstrated success building and developing teams
• Based in Africa with ability to travel frequently
• English and French language capability
