Engineering Manager - Language Capabilities / Machine Learning (f/m/d)*
YOUR MISSION:
As Engineering Manager for the Language Capabilities team (f/m/d)*, you will empower and lead a team of experienced data scientists, machine learning, and backend engineers to develop our language modelling (ASR and other models) capabilities, enabling Parloa to roll our products out globally. Parloa’s success depends on our ability to deploy market leading language processing models and services, from ASR, language detection, noise cancellation, and ITN to exploring new developments like single stage Conversational Speech Models. The Language Capabilities Team will research and develop, fine-tune, productionise, and own these models and backend services. The team will operate critical machine learning and backend components. You will set a high bar for engineering and science excellence and support your reports, supporting their growth and motivating them to solve complex challenges as a team. Your team will make an impact in transforming the entire customer service industry with AI.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Grow and lead a team of 5-7 machine learning engineers and backend engineers fostering a culture of collaboration and technical excellence.
- Empower your team to take ownership of critical Speech-to-text and Text-to-speech models and to develop a scalable approach for customizing speech models to customer-specific requirements in a broad range of languages
- Take ownership of speech services, such as acoustic echo cancellation, voice activity detection, and Language detection
- Deliver services for orchestrating ML models that are critical for Parloa’s platform
- Work with product management to ensure your team’s work aligns with company strategy and customer needs
- Develop your team via effective coaching and by providing them with growth opportunities
Our Data Tech stack:
Microsoft Azure, STT & TTS models and service providers (Azure, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, etc.), Python, TypeScript, Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, Kafka, Databricks, RxJS, DataDog, OTel, GitHub Actions, Helm.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
- 7+ years of experience as a backend engineer/machine learning engineer and/or data scientist
- 3+ years of experience as a people manager
- Experience in leading machine learning initiatives
- Experience in leading engineering teams that own production services
- Experience with developing and maintaining real-time machine learning products end-to-end: translating product requirements into technical requirements, data gathering/transformation and exploration, model productionization, maintenance, monitoring, optimization
- Experience establishing best practices in engineering and machine learning excellence (security, scalability, availability, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent spoken and written communication skills in English
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience working with voice data or NLP is a plus
- Experience with compliance is a plus
