Hybrid (3 days/week) in our London office

About Paloma Health

We provide families with high-quality specialist NHS care within 4 weeks of GP referral.

Our first service, children and young people’s autism assessments, went live in November 2024, and we are launching ADHD assessments and treatment in 2025.

We were founded as we don’t think it is right that families are waiting 2-5 years for NHS children’s autism and ADHD assessments, and this crisis has recently been highlighted by the Children’s Commissioner for England: https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/blog/childrens-commissioner-warns-of-invisible-crisis-as-delays-and-inequalities-laid-bare-among-children-with-neurodevelopmental-conditions/

Neurodiversity services are our first step to tackling all NHS specialist care waiting lists. We will launch more NHS services soon, including for adult autism and ADHD, memory assessments, paediatric allergy, and dermatology.

How is Paloma different?

  • We are clinically led, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered, with a friendly and approachable team
  • We have built our own software platform to:
    • Give our patients a more consumer-like experience of healthcare
    • Free our clinicians from admin to focus on patient care
  • Our strong culture, including transparency, a sense of community, and supporting staff career development
  • The experience of our founders (Dr Mark Jenkins & Darshak Shah), who have previously built tech-enabled NHS obesity and ophthalmology services. Combined, their previous companies have treated over 1 million NHS patients in the last 15 years!
  • Being backed by leading healthcare investors (Triple Point Ventures and Heal Capital), allowing us to move fast

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and passionate Front-End Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying cutting-edge applications powered by AI that integrate with our healthcare platform. You will work closely with our engineers and clinicians to develop an innovative interface that enhances clinical staff efficiency and improves the user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build Reusable Components: Architect and build a robust library of reusable frontend components to ensure consistency and development efficiency across our product suite.

  • Ensure Technical Feasibility: Provide technical guidance on UI/UX designs, ensuring they are feasible and optimized for the web.
  • Optimize for Performance: Proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks to ensure our applications are fast, responsive, and reliable.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work in an agile environment, collaborating with backend engineers, data scientists, QA testers, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless solutions.
  • Uphold Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. Champion best practices in testing by writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using frameworks like Jest and React Testing Library.
  • Mentor and Lead: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers on the team and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience in frontend development, with a strong focus on building complex, single-page applications.

  • Strong command of TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining reusable components and following clean code principles.
  • Proficiency in React component libraries like MUI, Chakra or Tailwind.
  • Deep understanding of the modern frontend development ecosystem throughout the pipeline, including build tools (Webpack, Vite), package managers (NPM/Yarn), and CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs and a solid understanding of asynchronous request handling.
  • A keen eye for detail and a passion for creating exceptional user experiences.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS), particularly concerning the deployment and monitoring of frontend components.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

  • Experience in the health-tech industry working on Electronic Health Record systems (EHRs), clinical charting tools, patient portals, clinical pathways visualisation, or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) or HL7.
  • Experience with data visualisation libraries (e.g., D3.js, Recharts) to represent clinical data effectively.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks like Cypress or Playwright.
  • Familiarity with NHS APIs and GP Connect systems
