The Role 

Based in our Dundee R&D operation, you will have the agency to impact the flow of technology—from introducing the smallest code change to making big system design improvements. We are looking for talented, energetic A-players who are comfortable introducing and embracing new approaches and tools while fitting them with proven existing systems. 

As an Engineering Team Leader, you are a technical leader who maintains a strong "player-coach" dynamic. You will own a critical domain within our Dundee R&D center, balancing deep technical contribution with the growth and performance of your team. You don't just ship code; you build the systems and the culture that allow your team to ship high-quality software sustainably. 

We believe software is a team sport, where collaboration with Product and across stakeholder groups is the key to our success. You won't just solve for code; you will dive deep into the domain to ensure our systems deliver meaningful results and genuine customer success. We value high-agency engineers who bring strong opinions to the table—judgement is critical here, and knowing when to say "no" is considered just as vital as saying "yes." In this role, your insights and expertise will be essential data points that directly shape the evolution of our platform and the advancement of your technical domain. 

You will work on Personalize at Optimove, which is at the critical intersection of big data and real-time execution, building robust microservices and streaming architectures designed to handle millions of events. Our mission is to eliminate technical bottlenecks by providing a seamless, AI-driven infrastructure that allows for hyper-personalized marketing experiences at scale. 

Responsibilities 

• End-to-End Solutions (50-70% hands-on): Design and develop end-to-end solutions in a scalable micro-services environment spanning frontend and backend scope. You set the standard for code quality and architectural integrity within your domain.
• Full-Cycle Ownership: Own your solution from design to production, including automated testing and deployment. 
• System Evolution: Understand and own existing technical solutions while extending them in new ways, managing complexity and technical debt effectively. 
• People & Culture: Lead, mentor, and inspire an agile team of developers.  
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Work autonomously and collaboratively with Product Managers, UX Designers, Customer Success, and DevOps. You act as the bridge between technical constraints and customer needs to implement robust solutions. 
• Operational Ownership: See the full picture. You own the "Service Level Objectives" (SLOs) for your team’s domain—from design and automated testing to production deployment and long-term support. 

Requirements 

• Architectural: Excellent knowledge of software design and scalable architectures delivered via the web. You can articulate the trade-offs of different technical paths to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
• Experience: 5+ years of experience developing services in a modern language such as Node.js, Python, Java, Golang or Rust. Frontend expertise; Javascript or Typescript experience with a modern framework (e.g. React, Angular, Vue). 
• Leadership: Mentoring junior and mid-level developers, with the strong leadership skills necessary to build a high-performing, "winning" team. 
• Infrastructure & DevOps: Experience with Cloud Services (e.g. AWS, GCP), SQL database design, and modern CI/CD pipelines. 
• Location: Ability to work in a hybrid model 2+ days per week from our office in Dundee. 
• Right to Work: Must have the right to work in the UK (we are unable to provide sponsorship at this time). 
• Education: B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent. 

Advantages 

• Understanding of micro-services architecture and No-SQL database design. 
• Experience shipping products using serverless architectures. 
• Experience with event stream processing. 
• Experience shipping reusable frontend components (e.g. mobile or web SDKs). 
• Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker) and orchestration (e.g. K8s).
