Role Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Energy System Modeller who is confident with open-source software development. This role is pivotal in developing and refining energy system models that simulate the behavior and integration of various energy sources. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in energy systems analysis and a proven track record of open-source development experience to deliver insightful, data-driven results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Energy Modelling and Analysis:

    • Develop comprehensive energy system models to analyze grid operations, renewable integration, and energy system flexibility.
    • Perform simulations and scenario analyses to study energy market dynamics, infrastructure impacts, and policy implications.
    • Validate and calibrate models based on real-world data, ensuring high accuracy and reliability in predictive outputs.
  • Technical Leadership and Project Support:

    • Lead modeling projects, providing expertise and guidance to ensure alignment with strategic goals and project deliverables.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate modeling insights into broader energy studies and strategic planning.
    • Communicate technical findings to stakeholders through detailed reports, presentations, and policy briefs.
  • Innovation in Modeling Techniques:

    • Stay updated with the latest developments in energy modeling tools and practices.
    • Innovate and enhance modeling approaches to maintain leading-edge capability in energy system analysis.
    • Contribute to the development and dissemination of open-source tools and methodologies.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with data scientists, software developers, and policy analysts to ensure models are robust, scalable, and aligned with current and future energy challenges.
    • Engage with the global energy modeling community, participating in forums, workshops, and collaborative projects.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in energy system modelling using code-centric energy modelling frameworks like PyPSA, GenX, Sienna or alike.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex datasets and perform detailed energy system analyses.
  • Strong track record of leading projects and delivering actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical details to diverse audiences.
