An opportunity has arisen in our Medical Affairs team for a Medical Affairs Assistant. This role offers a great blend of laboratory and administrative work, supporting FISH processing activities.

What you’ll be doing for us:

  • Ensure smooth and efficient running of the laboratory, including consumables, reagents, microscopes, equipment and software within the MA team
  • Process FISH workload, using FFPE, haematological and prenatal specimens to support QC and studies in the medical affairs team
  • Responsible for sample receipt, release, shipment, storage and disposal following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhering to the Human Tissue Act (2004)
  • Laboratory duties such as biological sample culturing, harvesting, and fixed cell slide preparation
  • Sectioning of FFPE tissue blocks and FFPE slide preparation
  • Maintain laboratory records and LIMS, making sure they are up to date and accurate
  • Perform image capture of FISH slides using automation or manual methods
  • Support with maintaining appropriate proportion of the quality management system, including procedures and audits
  • To comply with all site quality management systems, regulations and health and safety procedures (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 13485:2016, ISO 27001:2022, (EU) 2017/746 (IVDR), GCLP and Human Tissue Act (2004))
  • To complete any other tasks as commensurate with the level and nature of the post as delegated by the line manager.

What we are looking for in you

Essential

  • A bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology, or similar subject OR a minimum of one year laboratory experience
  • Basic knowledge of FISH processing
  • Good document practice
  • High accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks, while knowing when to seek support
  • Able to work accurately and efficiently in a high-volume, process-driven, and protocol-driven environment
  • Strong Communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable

  • Previous experience with FISH
  • Experience with microscopy and microtomy
  • Experience in cell culture techniques
  • Knowledge and previous use of a LIMS
  • Familiarity with working to defined protocols or standard operating procedures (SOPs).
