Lead Data Analyst

Hybrid

The Company

We’re Octopus Legacy: one of the fastest growing tech companies in the country, part of the UK’s most exciting and best-trusted group (you may have heard of some of our sister companies…) and we have a mission.

We’re on a path to scale, aiming to become a household name while transforming a long-established industry and helping our customers prepare for, and find support after, death.

But we can’t do it alone, and that’s why we’re assembling a team of top performers to build with us.

Ready to be part of something big?

The Role

We’re looking for a curious and proactive Lead Data Analyst to join our growing team at Octopus Legacy. Reporting to the Head of Technology, you’ll have a real opportunity to shape our data culture and drive data-informed decision making across the business.

You’ll dive deep into our data - analysing, interpreting, and uncovering insights that influence strategy and business priorities. You’ll work closely with department heads to translate findings into actionable recommendations that help the company grow.

As we continue building out our data pipeline and improving our stack, you’ll help identify what’s missing, capture new data sources, and guide how we use them. You’ll also play a key role in educating the wider team, organising company KPIs into a cohesive structure that supports our strategic goals.

We’re looking for someone who’s naturally inquisitive, confident working independently, and excited by the challenge of helping us build and scale our data function from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analytics

  • Analyse complex datasets to uncover insights that inform business decisions.
  • Build reports and dashboards to track key metrics and KPIs.

KPI Management

  • Develop a cohesive KPI tree aligned with company goals.

Data Engineering

  • Maintain and improve our existing data pipeline to ensure data quality and reliability.
  • Integrate new data sources and prepare them for analysis.

Team Leadership

  • Line-manage and mentor a Data Analyst, providing guidance and clear priorities.
  • Help shape the growth of the data function and define best practices.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Skills and Knowledge

Must haves:

  • Strong curiosity and proactive mindset, with the ability to independently explore data, ask the right questions, identify opportunities, and drive projects forward without requiring constant guidance.
  • Experience in data analytics and the ability to extract actionable insights from complex datasets.
  • Proficiency with SQL and other data query languages.
  • Proven ability to work closely with business stakeholders and translate their needs into data-driven solutions.
  • Experience in developing reports and dashboards to monitor key metrics.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex data in a way that is understandable and actionable for non-technical stakeholders across departments.
  • Proficiency with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Metabase).
  • Ability to educate and train stakeholders on data literacy.
