Will Drafting Lead
The Company
We’re Octopus Legacy: one of the fastest growing tech companies in the country, part of the UK’s most exciting and best-trusted group (you may have heard of some of our sister companies…) and we have a mission.
We’re on a path to scale, aiming to become a household name while transforming a long-established industry and helping our customers prepare for, and find support after, death.
But we can’t do it alone, and that’s why we’re assembling a team of top performers to build with us.
Ready to be part of something big?
The Role
As Will Drafting Lead, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our drafting team, ensuring that all estate planning documents—wills, LPAs, and related instruments—are completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with regulatory standards and internal SLAs.
In addition to leading and mentoring a team of will drafters, you’ll play an active role in drafting complex or high-value cases yourself. You'll take ownership of workflow management, quality assurance, and continuous improvement, ensuring that clients consistently receive a high-quality, timely, and professional service.
This is a management role with hands-on responsibilities. You’ll help shape our estate planning delivery while working alongside a collaborative, innovative legal and operations team in a rapidly evolving industry. We will want this person to collaborate with other members to improve processes related to drafting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, support, and develop a team of will drafters to ensure high-quality, compliant documents are delivered on time.
- Manage workflow and allocate drafting tasks in line with internal SLAs and capacity.
- Draft wills, LPAs, and complex estate planning documents, particularly for high-priority or sensitive cases.
- Review and proofread documents for legal accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
- Liaise with legal and estate planning teams to resolve complex or unusual drafting issues.
- Maintain and improve quality control processes and ensure compliance with legal and data protection standards.
- Monitor team performance and support ongoing training and development.
- Contribute to process improvement, drafting standards, and client experience initiatives.
- Stay current with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in will-writing and estate planning.
Who Are You?
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in private client or estate planning work (essential).
- Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring others in a legal setting.
- STEP qualification (preferred).
- Proficient with will-writing software (e.g., Arken) or similar tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong grasp of relevant legal and drafting standards.
- Strong leadership and communication skills—you can explain complex legal concepts clearly and guide others effectively.
- Organised, deadline-driven, and quality-focused, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Calm under pressure, adaptable, and committed to delivering a high-quality client experience.
Our Mission
When people think about planning for death they think about wills, life insurance and funerals. We take these cold processes and turn them into something more human. Share more than money: leave voice notes, music, recipes. Shape a legacy that connects you while you're here. And after you're gone.
Founded by Sam after his mum died suddenly, we’re a group of people who work in death because we’ve been affected by it. We know the difference a good plan makes, and what it’s like when there isn’t one.
Death can come between us, leave mess, legal fees, frustration. But it can also make us stronger. We see a world where people talk openly about death, and work out the real meaning of legacy, one that connects to them. We’re here to make that world happen.
