About the Role
Nscale is at a critical inflection point of expansion, and we are seeking a strategic, high-impact Head of State Policy to spearhead our engagement with state governments across the U.S. Reporting to the US SVP for Global Affairs, you will be the architect of our state-level government relations strategy, directly supporting the company's growth, infrastructure development, and investment priorities.
You will act as the primary bridge between Nscale’s innovative AI infrastructure and the local policy environments that power it. You will engage with governors' offices, state legislatures, economic development organizations, public utility commissions, energy regulators, and local stakeholders to turn ambitious infrastructure goals into regional reality. Working closely with business, infrastructure, energy, and development teams, you will help create the conditions necessary for Nscale’s continued expansion across key markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Execution: Develop and drive a proactive, high-impact state government affairs roadmap that accelerates Nscale’s growth, site selection, and critical infrastructure investment priorities.
- Strategic Stakeholder Management: Build and cultivate high-level partnerships with governors, legislators, energy regulators, and economic development officials. You will be the primary voice of Nscale in key markets, ensuring we are viewed as a collaborative partner.
- Market Expansion & Infrastructure: Proactively drive site selection, market expansion, and infrastructure development efforts through strategic government engagement.
- Advocacy & Influence: Navigate and influence complex legislative and regulatory landscapes to secure policy wins regarding AI infrastructure, data centers, energy reliability, workforce development, tax policy, and economic growth.
- Opportunity Identification: Proactively identify and leverage opportunities related to state-level incentives, grants, workforce initiatives, and economic development partnerships.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner closely with commercial, infrastructure, energy, legal, and communications teams to ensure a consistent, aligned external narrative and to integrate policy strategy with overarching business objectives.
- Representation & Thought Leadership: Represent Nscale before state governments, industry associations, and public forums.
- Executive Advisory: Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on political, regulatory, and stakeholder dynamics in key markets to inform national strategy.
- Executive Engagement: Lead and support executive-level engagement with state officials and key community stakeholders to foster long-term alignment.
About You
- Significant experience in state government affairs, public policy, economic development, political affairs, or a related field, with a track record of translating policy goals into tangible outcomes.
- Strong understanding of state legislative, regulatory, and political processes; you know how to operate in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated success engaging directly with governors' offices, state legislatures, economic development agencies, and regulators.
- Experience supporting infrastructure, energy, technology, or large-scale industrial projects. Experience in AI, data centers, or telecommunications is a significant advantage.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and strategic planning skills; you can build coalitions from the ground up.
- Proven ability to manage multiple, high-stakes priorities across numerous jurisdictions simultaneously.
- Passionate about the potential of AI to change the world and energized by the challenge of building the physical infrastructure required to power it.
The range below reflects the base salary for the position. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related factors such as skill set, experience, education, and location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for bonus, equity, and/or commission programs. Nscale may offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, flexible paid time off, parental leave, and retirement plan participation.
Salary Range
$260,000 - $440,000 USD
