Design and Construction Electrical Engineer, Korea
The Electrical Engineer plays a critical role as the Electrical System subject matter expert for the design and construction of both our greenfield, brownfield, colocation data centres in Korea. His/her responsibilities include designing new data centres, reviewing designs from colocation operators with expertise in electrical engineering to ensure that the electrical system is capable to support high-density AI workloads. You will be involved in hands on electrical design experience across the project lifecycle from concept design through construction, to commissioning and handover.
You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the electrical engineering field across projects in Korea. You will ensure sites operate at peak performance, meet uptime targets, and scale to support high-density AI workloads.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Data Centre electrical designs in collaboration with other disciplines to create a coordinated construction document set
- Drive innovation and R&D for emerging technologies (e.g., liquid cooling integration, advanced monitoring)
- Participate in site selection reviews and work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements
- Involved in Critical Data Centre equipment design including MV infrastructure, Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Switchgear, Transformers and Earthing
- Creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements and within our budgetary requirements
- Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment
- Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with IEC requirements, the various Data Centre wide design codes and other jurisdictional requirements
- Review and approval of equipment submittals and ability to work on concurrent projects across in Korea
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during construction phases
- Conduct engineering analysis, feasibility studies, and value engineering for cost and performance optimization.
- Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for electrical system issues
- Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed across Data Centres in Korea
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7-10+ years of experience in heavy industrial or commercial electrical design, including 5+ years in mission-critical facilities
- Experience in high-density AI/HPC workloads
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer certification is an advantage
- Strong understanding of regional electrical codes (IEC, NEC, CCC, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of critical Data Centre electrical systems, including:
- Medium-voltage (MV) distribution systems
- UPS systems, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, PDUs, VFDs, and ATS/STS
- High voltage substations
- Experience with controls systems and integration
- Proven ability to research and implement new designs and technologies from concept through deployment
- Experience managing supplier relationships and conducting factory acceptance tests
- Proficiency with modelling software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM)
