MEP Subject Matter Specialist
.
Position Overview
NScale is seeking a MEP Subject Matter Specialist to support the successful delivery, integration, and turnover of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across mission-critical data center programs, with Owner-Furnished Contractor-Installed (OFCI) equipment representing a major portion of the role. This position serves as a technical bridge between manufacturing, engineering, project management, construction, commissioning, and site teams, helping ensure that packaged equipment and site-based MEP scope are ready for FAT where applicable, delivered with the right documentation and quality closure, installed correctly in the field, and supported through startup and turnover. The ideal candidate brings deep practical experience with complex mechanical and controls-integrated equipment, strong factory and field coordination skills, and the ability to support broader MEP site delivery activities in live project environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the end-to-end technical coordination of MEP systems and OFCI equipment from design and factory readiness through site delivery, installation, startup, commissioning, and turnover.
- Coordinate and support FAT, factory witness testing, punch-list closure, and documentation readiness for packaged equipment and other OFCI scope to ensure release from the factory at the right quality level.
- Provide site-facing technical support for MEP scope including equipment receipt, storage, installation sequencing, subcontractor and trade alignment, field quality observations, and issue escalation.
- Work directly with project managers, clients, general contractors, suppliers, production teams, and engineering teams to resolve deployment issues, manage cross-functional interfaces, and maintain schedule alignment.
- Support constructability, serviceability, utility tie-in, and controls integration reviews across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls scopes, helping identify risks early and improve field execution.
- Provide practical technical support on first-of-kind, custom, or complex equipment by helping identify build issues, installation concerns, and cross-discipline integration challenges before and during deployment.
- Partner with commissioning and mission-critical services teams to support startup, functional testing, troubleshooting, SAT, and turnover readiness for OFCI equipment and related MEP systems.
- Help investigate and resolve field quality issues, performance gaps, installation deviations, and integration problems, and drive lessons learned back into factory, engineering, and site workflows.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 10+ years of experience supporting MEP systems deployment, mission-critical equipment delivery, factory support, field technical advisory, QA/QC, startup, commissioning, or related site delivery functions.
- Strong hands-on understanding of mechanical, thermal, HVAC, refrigeration, and controls-integrated equipment, with working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and utility interfaces used in data center or industrial environments.
- Experience supporting FAT, factory witness testing, site installation support, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for custom or complex equipment.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, general contractors, suppliers, production teams, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and commissioning personnel.
- Comfort operating in high-security or live mission-critical environments and willingness to travel as needed to factories and project sites.
- Technical trade certification, diploma, or equivalent practical field experience in HVAC, refrigeration, MEP systems, controls, or a related discipline.
Preferred
- Experience with data center equipment, data center cooling systems, chilled water / glycol systems, or liquid cooling / immersion cooling platforms.
- Background supporting first-of-kind equipment builds, factory quality closure, field deployment, and site issue resolution.
- Experience in both factory and field environments across North America and global project locations.
- Familiarity with commissioning documentation, sequence of operations, control narratives, and controls troubleshooting.
- Experience coordinating or supporting switchgear, UPS, PDUs, pump skids, heat rejection equipment, piping assemblies, control panels, or network-connected equipment as part of equipment deployment.
