Derived by separating the current combined SCADA / OT Networking Specialist role into a dedicated SCADA platform leadership function.

Position Overview

NScale is seeking a SCADA Subject Matter Expert to support the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of highly available SCADA platforms across NScale data centers. This role owns the SCADA application layer, including platform architecture, historian strategy, integrations, alarming, visualization standards, and operational support. Working closely with Controls Engineers, OT Network teams, system integrators, and commissioning teams, this SME ensures that SCADA environments are resilient, secure, maintainable, and aligned with NScale operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of SCADA platforms, with primary focus on Inductive Automation Ignition architectures for mission-critical environments.
  • Define and review SCADA platform standards including redundant gateway architecture, historian configuration, store-and-forward strategy, tag structure, alarming, trends, and visualization expectations.
  • Support integration of PLC and field data into the SCADA platform using OPC UA, MQTT Sparkplug B, and related industrial communications methods.
  • Review and validate integrator SCADA projects, graphics, alarming approaches, data models, and platform configurations for compliance with NScale standards and operational requirements.
  • Support user access, authentication, MFA, role-based permissions, certificate management, and other SCADA platform cybersecurity controls in coordination with cybersecurity teams.
  • Participate in FAT, CAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and failover testing for SCADA applications, historian functionality, and platform redundancy.
  • Support troubleshooting of SCADA application, historian, or integration issues during startup and live operations.
  • Ensure SCADA platform documentation is complete and maintained, including architecture diagrams, backup and recovery approaches, naming conventions, alarm philosophy, and deployment records.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting SCADA systems in industrial, utilities, or mission-critical environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Inductive Automation Ignition, including gateway configuration, historian setup, alarming, and visualization.
  • Strong understanding of OPC UA, MQTT, industrial data integration patterns, and interaction with PLC-based control systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA cybersecurity principles including authentication, role-based access, secure communications, and patch/vulnerability coordination.
  • Experience working with system integrators and commissioning teams during platform deployment and startup.

Preferred

  • Ignition certification or equivalent platform credentials.
  • Experience supporting data center BMS, EPMS, or critical environment monitoring systems.
  • Experience with historian design, store-and-forward, and data quality troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with alarm rationalization, operator workflow design, and HMI usability standards.

The range below reflects the base salary for the position. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related factors such as skill set, experience, education, and location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for bonus, equity, and/or commission programs. Nscale may offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, flexible paid time off, parental leave, and retirement plan participation.

Salary Range

$150,000 - $200,000 USD
