Senior AI Engineer

About Nothing

Nothing exists to make tech feel exciting again.

We’re building a different kind of technology company, one that puts design, emotion, and human creativity at the heart of everything we do. From the way our products look and feel to how we communicate and show up in culture, we believe technology should make you feel something.

Founded in London in 2020, we’ve grown from idea to global challenger in just a few years. Backed by GV (Google Ventures), EQT Ventures, and C Ventures, and investors like Tony Fadell (iPod), Casey Neistat, and Kevin Lin (Twitch), we’re now sold in 40+ markets with millions of users worldwide.

About the Team

We are a small, restless R&D unit within Nothing. We don’t care about AI for the sake of the hype cycle; we care about how it can make technology feel more human. While the industry rushes to bolt generic chatbots onto every interface, we are designing experiences where intelligence is woven into the fabric of the OS. We work at the intersection of deep learning and interaction design, solving the hard problems of latency, context, and utility. We move fast because we’re small and independent, and we are building the future we want to live in.

What You'll Do

  • Ideate and prototype novel AI interactions spanning speech, generative sound, computer vision, and behavioural understanding, moving quickly from "what if" to working demo.
  • Take full ownership of features from the first line of Python/Swift to global deployment, ensuring what we ship is robust enough for millions of users.
  • Optimise models for the edge; you will make critical architectural decisions on what runs locally for privacy and speed versus what requires the power of the cloud.
  • Collaborate intimately with Product Designers to craft the "feel" of the intelligence, ensuring latency and responses spark emotion rather than frustration.
  • Build the supporting infrastructure—from mobile client logic to scalable backend services—needed to make your models live and breathe in production.
  • Establish evaluation frameworks to measure the quality and safety of our generative features, ensuring we don't ship unpredictable results.
  • Shape the technical roadmap for Mobile AI at Nothing, defining the tools and architectures that will define our next generation of products.

What We're Looking For

  • A shipping mindset. You have a history of putting AI-powered features into production in fast-paced environments. You prefer released code over perfect research papers.
  • Full-stack fluidity. You are pragmatic about tools. You are comfortable jumping from training a model in Python to optimising C++ or writing Kotlin/Swift to hook it up to the UI.
  • Deep LLM curiosity. You go beyond the API calls. You understand the mechanics of Transformers and are excited to figure out how to ground them in personal mobile context.
  • Design intuition. You understand that for consumer tech, the interaction is the product. You obsess over how a feature feels, not just its F1 score.
  • Ownership. You don't need hand-holding. You spot the gap between "concept" and "finished product" and you fill it yourself, handling the messy details of integration.
  • Performance awareness. You understand the constraints of mobile hardware—battery, heat, and memory—and enjoy the challenge of squeezing intelligence into small spaces.
  • Restless energy. You are bored by the status quo. You want to build things that haven't been done before and are willing to break a few moulds to get there.

How We Work

We build better tech by moving fast. That speed demands direct collaboration and shared creative energy. We believe the best work happens when we're together.

  • Location: London (Kings Cross & Farringdon offices).
  • Working Pattern: This is a full-time, in-office role (5 days a week). We move fast, and that means being physically present. We design flexibility around personal needs, but we focus on the magic that sparks when we’re all in the same room.
  • Commute: We ask that you live within a 60-minute commute of your home office location
