About Nothing

Nothing exists to make tech feel exciting again.

We’re building a different kind of technology company, one that puts design, emotion, and human creativity at the heart of everything we do. From the way our products look and feel to how we communicate and show up in culture, we believe technology should make you feel something.

Founded in London in 2020, we’ve grown from idea to global challenger in just a few years. Backed by GV (Google Ventures), EQT Ventures, and C Ventures, and investors like Tony Fadell (iPod), Casey Neistat, and Kevin Lin (Twitch), we’re now sold in 40+ markets with millions of users worldwide.

The Role:

We are seeking a qualified and technically skilled In-house Intellectual Property Counsel to join our London office. You will work closely with our industrial design, AI, and software development teams to identify and protect valuable intellectual property assets. You will also assist with standard-essential patent (SEP) licensing negotiations, in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsel.  Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing design protection, managing patent prosecution with external counsel, and handling trademark, copyright, data, and other IP and technology enforcement and licensing matters across the UK, Europe and other relevant jurisdictions.  You will have exposure to other legal matters if interested.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the industrial design team to assess new product designs and secure design protection.
  • Liaise with AI and software development teams to identify patentable inventions and coordinate the global filings and prosecution of patent applications with external patent attorneys.
  • Support licensing negotiations for standard essential patents (SEPs), including reviewing FRAND commitments and managing communications with licensors or licensing platforms.
  • Support and manage trademark, and copyright, data, and other IP and technology enforcement and licensing matters across the UK, Europe and other relevant jurisdictions, including dispute resolution.
  • Support additional legal tasks as needed, such as reviewing standard agreements or internal policies.

Requirements:

  • Degree in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Qualified as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and/or European Patent Attorney (EPA).
  • Qualified in the UK and/or Germany.
  • Robust understanding of applicable law sufficient to support related legal matters.
  • Experience working in international and multicultural environments.
  • Excellent English communication skills —written and spoken.
  • Mandarin communication skills are a plus.
