Nothing's debut smartphone, Phone (1), earned Time Magazine’s prestigious Best Inventions for Innovative Smartphone Design award. Through cutting-edge design and user interface innovation, the London-based company is creating an alternative ecosystem of tech products for the young and creative.
In 2023, the company launched Phone (2) to wide acclaim from its community, the media, and design enthusiasts, and in 2024, Nothing launched its CMF Phone 1, and Nothing Phone (2a) Series, with both receiving an overwhelmingly positive reception.
To date, Nothing has sold more than 7 million units worldwide across its product lines, having released five audio products, five smartphones, and two smart wearables under the Nothing and CMF by Nothing brands. The company has amassed a cumulative revenue of $1 billion.
All products are developed in close collaboration with the Nothing Community, which includes over 8,000 private investors and are crafted with sustainability at the forefront.

We are seeking a skilled and driven Model Maker to join Nothing’s Industrial Design team in Kings Cross, London. You will be a creative problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail and a hunger to bring product concepts to life through physical models.
You will collaborate closely with our designers and engineers to shape the look and feel of our products, contributing toa culture of creativity, excellence, and user-centered design.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality 3D models and prototypes using a range of materials, tools, and techniques, such as 3D printing, CNC machining, manual milling, laser cutting etc.
- Paint and finish models to an appropriate resolution to convey design intent.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, propose novel solutions, and ensure models match the design intent and meet our high standards of quality.
- Use CAD software to receive, investigate, adapt, and propose changes to designs as needed.
- Select appropriate materials and construction techniques for each project, considering fidelity and intended use.
- Perform quality control checks, troubleshoot issues, and independently solve problems during the model-making process.
- Operate and maintain our equipment with care, as if it was your own.
- Maintain a safe and organized workspace, adhering to health and safety protocols when working with tools, materials, and equipment.
- Optional/Bonus: Apply simple electronics knowledge to create models with basic interactive or functional elements. This is not a requirement for the role, but a nice-to-have.
Required Skills and Qualities
- Expert model making skills with a high level of precision and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in operating 3D printers, CNC machines, mills, lathes and laser cutters.
- CAD proficiency and experience with both digital and handcrafting techniques.
- Excellent visual and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Creative and collaborative problem-solving abilities; confidence in proposing new approaches and finishing techniques.
- Intuitive appreciation for user-centered design and a passion for making things.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and highly productive in managing time and resources.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and deliver high-quality results under deadlines.
- Calmness under pressure.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a model maker or in a similar role, with a portfolio showcasing a range of model-making projects and techniques.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, Modelmaking or a related field (preferred).
