Intern - Lawyer
THE ROLE AND SCOPE OF THE TRAINING PROJECT
An internship in the legal department of Starlight offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in legal matters related to energy law, corporate M&A transactions, and corporate governance. It provides the chance to develop specialized knowledge of the law, enhance contract management skills, and learn about project development. The selected candidate will join a legal department composed of four lawyers, led by the General Counsel. While most activities will support the Italian business development operations, Starlight's international presence will also offer opportunities to work across various countries and jurisdictions (currently Greece, the UK, Romania, and Canada).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Commercial and Project Contracts (e.g., NDAs, letters of intent, non-binding offers, consultancy agreements, service agreements): Support drafting, negotiations, and document archiving. The intern will assist with proofreading, archiving, organizing conference calls with counterparties, and managing the signature process
- Land Agreements: Support drafting, negotiations, and document archiving. This includes proofreading, archiving, organizing conference calls with counterparties, managing the relationship with notarial firms and external lawyers, and assisting with the signature process
- Contractual Communications: Draft communications related to contracts (land agreements, project contracts, loan agreements, etc.), including those for contract extensions. The intern will draft initial versions, manage the signature process, and archive documents
- Communication with Public Authorities: Draft communications for public authorities involved in authorization procedures. The intern will handle initial drafts, manage the signature process, and archive communications
- Corporate Secretary Support: Assist with drafting minutes for board or shareholder meetings and with powers of attorney
- General Legal Support: Conduct legal research, draft opinions and memoranda, and analyze applicable laws, regulatory updates, and court rulings relevant to the sector
- Virtual Data Room and Archive: Assist with preparing the Virtual Data Room (VDR) and managing archives for business development processes and M&A transactions.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Time management & prioritization skills - things can get a little hectic, so the ability to effectively manage yourself and your workload is critical.
- Excellent communication skills (in English or/and other European languages) - you must be able to organize your thoughts in a way that others find clear and compelling. You will be expected to together well-written, grammatically correct emails and other communications. When communicating verbally – whether over the phone, on video calls, in person or in meetings – you will need to be articulate, warm and engaging.
- Flexibility - being an effective team player means being flexible in your approach and open to getting involved with new things, even if they are not spelled out in your job description.
- Intellectual Curiosity – we are looking for someone who is truly interested in our profession and has the intellectual curiosity to delve deep into topics and bring fresh ideas into the team.
- IT Literacy - you need to be comfortable with IT systems and working with data (you should have at least intermediate-level excel).
- Delivery focus – it may sound obvious, but the ability to proactively churn through work at pace and deliver quality outputs really matters!
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Law (preferably with a focus on energy law, corporate law, or commercial law)
- Knowledge or coursework in corporate M&A transactions, corporate governance, and contract law is a plus
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficiency in Italian and other relevant languages would be a plus
- The right to work in Italy.
