Job description
Location : 42 Cours Pierre Vasseur, 91120 PALAISEAU, France
Start date: June 2026
Contract: Full-time (CDI)
We are seeking a driven and talented engineer with expertise in semiconductor. The role includes developing, optimizing, and deploying our integrated nanolaser R&D program. This role requires hands-on device development, technical depth, and close collaboration across internal teams.
Working under the R&D Laser Manager, you will own the technical execution of laser design projects — from high-level modeling and design rule definition to wafer-level validation and performance analysis — driving model-to-fab-to-test convergence through rigorous DOE campaigns and systematic data analysis.
This role establishes the laser design rules and learning loops that underpin NcodiN’s integrated technology, accelerating our path from concept to industrialization.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Modeling
- Contribute to integrated laser architecture design (III-V on silicon, nanolasers, photonic cavities, etc.) under guidance
- Run and maintain multi-physics simulations using existing setups:
- Optical (FDTD, mode solvers)
- Electrical (carrier transport)
- Thermal
- Produce structured design analyses from simulations (performance prediction, sensitivity checks, trade-offs) with review
- Help build/maintain compact models (rate equations, TLM, serial resitance)
- Support PDK enrichment (documentation, checks, parameter updates)
Experimental validation & characterization
- Support characterization plan execution (DC and RF) and lab readiness
- Perform measurements:
- I-V, P-I curves
- Efficiency (slope efficiency, WPE)
- Basic modulation dynamics/bandwidth measurements
- Clean, analyze, and report measurement data; highlight anomalies
- Participate in test setup operation and incremental improvements
Analysis & optimization
- Identify first-order performance limitations with support (thermal effects, recombination, optical losses, etc.)
- Propose and test incremental design/process improvements
- Contribute to failure-analysis data collection and reliability experiments
Collaboration & documentation
- Work with cross-functional teams (design, modeling, process, test) on scoped tasks
- Document methods, simulation settings, measurement conditions, and results in a reproducible way
You don’t check all the boxes? Please submit an application anyway, we’ll be happy to consider it.
Required skills
Education & experience
- MSc or PhD (or near completion) in photonics, optoelectronics, semiconductor physics, or related field
- 0–3 years of relevant experience (industry or academic)
Technical foundations
- Good understanding of semiconductor laser basics
- Familiarity with integrated photonics concepts (waveguides, photonic crystals)
- Understands key performance metrics (I-V, P-I, SE, WPE)
Modeling & simulation
- Uses simulation tools with guidance; can run predefined simulations (FDTD, eigenmode solvers, etc.)
- Basic interpretation of simulation outputs and limitations
- Use rate equations / compact models to derive optimal design parameters
Experimental skills
- Comfortable supporting measurements and data collection
- Familiar with lab instrumentation and measurement procedures
- Basic data analysis and troubleshooting (with support)
Tools & environment
- Scientific programming for analysis (Python, Matlab, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, or similar)
- Structured work habits (clear notes, version control awareness is a plus)
Benefits
- Comprehensive Health Care Plan
- Life Insurance
- Meal vouchers
- Commuter Benefit (50% refund of public transportation pass)
- Generous Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
- Flexible, hybrid workplace model
- Stock Option Plan
Actual pay will be based on several factors including work experience, location and education.
We strongly value a heterogeneous environment to bring perspective, experience and skills to the table, leading to innovation and creativity.
Paris pay range
€48.000 - €60.000 EUR
