Role Overview
The Lead, Merchant KYC Support is responsible for overseeing the operational and strategic execution of Know Your Customer (KYC) activities across the organization. This includes leading a team of KYC Support Officers, managing merchant onboarding processes, monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements, and ensuring the integrity of customer due diligence practices.
The role requires a deep understanding of KYC policies, risk assessment, and compliance standards, as well as the ability to coordinate cross-functional efforts to maintain a strong risk posture and prevent financial crime exposure.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, coaching, and daily oversight to the KYC Support team, ensuring timely and accurate completion of onboarding and periodic review tasks
- Review high-risk client files and risk assessments, escalating complex cases and recommendations to management for final approval
- Oversee and continuously improve due diligence workflows, document validation processes, and risk classification standards
- Drive the timely execution of periodic, trigger-based, and event-driven client reviews in line with regulatory obligations
- Ensure data accuracy and proper recordkeeping of all KYC-related documentation and audit trails
- Act as a point of escalation for internal stakeholders in resolving KYC documentation or onboarding challenges
- Collaborate closely with Compliance, Risk, Data & Document Management, and Customer Success teams to align KYC support with broader risk frameworks
- Monitor regulatory updates and changes in KYC requirements, recommending updates to internal procedures accordingly
- Support the development and delivery of KYC-related training for the team and relevant cross-functional partners
- Generate regular performance and risk exposure reports for management decision-making
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 4–6 years of relevant experience in KYC, client onboarding, compliance, or risk management
- Experience managing or mentoring a team in a financial services or fintech environment
- Strong understanding of business account onboarding and SME/corporate documentation requirements
- Knowledge of applicable regulations (e.g., AML, CBN KYC Guidelines, FATF Recommendations) is highly preferred
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in KYC systems and tools is an advantage
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

- Maintain high satisfaction levels across internal stakeholders relying on KYC support services
