Role Overview

As a Market Research Officer, you will play a critical role in fueling our marketplace strategy with deep market insights, competitive pricing intelligence, and product innovation signals. Your research will inform category decisions, pricing strategies, vendor onboarding, and go-to-market plans across Nigeria's dynamic retail ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Pricing & Product Intelligence

  • Conduct regular price checks across all relevant B2B and open-market channels (online and offline).
  • Track promotions, price drops, bulk schemes, and new product launches.
  • Discover and benchmark new SKUs, package formats, and size variants within key categories.
  • Identify alternative data sources (distributors, competitors, retail panels, informal market operators) for cross-validating pricing and packaging info.

Market Sensing & Primary Research

  • Conduct field surveys and market visits to gather pricing, packaging, and product availability data.
  • Map category momentum: Understand which SKUs or brands are gaining/losing share across geographies.
  • Act as a central source for all product and SKU-level insights needed by the sourcing, logistics, or marketing teams.

Competitor & Trade Activity Monitoring

  • Track competitor activity including BTL campaigns, in-market activations, trade schemes, and seasonal pushes.
  • Build and maintain a market intelligence dashboard for rapid category decision-making.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with category managers, procurement teams, and marketing to inform launch decisions, assortment mix, and local pricing.
  • Maintain a repository of actionable insights for regular use by sales, sourcing, finance, and leadership teams.
  • Prepare and present weekly/monthly intelligence reports.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in market research, category insights, or retail intelligence, ideally in FMCG, B2B commerce, or e-commerce.
  • Strong understanding of retail pricing structures, wholesale-distributor economics, and packaging formats.
  • Experience conducting primary field research (surveys, store visits, trade interviews).
  • Ability to manage and analyze data in Excel, Google Sheets, or data visualization tools.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, data-driven environments with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and at least one major local Nigerian language.
