Over 3M small businesses and consumers have opened bank accounts with us and rely on our products every day for digital payments acceptance, working capital, and banking services. After building a successful, profitable business generating over $250m in annualized revenue, we are now expanding internationally. 

Ahead of our Series C, we set up our business entity and operations in the UK for a new global business unit which will also launch in Kenya, and we are looking for our Head of FX, Kenya. who will build and lead the sales and partnerships organization for our Kenya business, focusing on building our book of business from scratch with importers and exporters. We want to help everyone around the world seamlessly trade with African businesses, and especially with Kenyan businesses. We see a huge opportunity to solve pain points and to create a great product for millions of people, while building the next part of our business which will help us hit the $1B revenue mark. As the Head of FX, Kenya, you will play a pivotal role on this journey!!

About the role 

Location: Nairobi / remote 

As the Head of FX, Kenya, you will lead Moniepoint’s expansion into the Kenyan market, with a primary focus on driving the growth of services for SME importers and exporters. You will be responsible for commercial growth through sales and partnerships, ensuring seamless integration of Moniepoint’s products into the operations of Kenyan businesses, with Kenyan SME importers and exporters specifically, enabling efficient global remittance and payment solutions. Reporting to senior leadership, you will also collaborate with the leadership team locally in Kenya, to ensure operational alignment while focusing heavily on strategic sales execution. Your role will involve building a sales team, establishing key partnerships, and driving significant revenue growth, and ensuring we become a market leader in Kenya, and that we successfully build a double digit million top line in the next 3-5 years. 

Job responsibilities: 

  • Market Expansion Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a strategy for expanding Moniepoint’s services for this specific product line, in Kenya, targeting SME businesses in the import/export sectors.
  • Sales Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing sales team from the ground up, focusing on driving sales to SME customers.
  • Partnership Development: Establish and manage strategic partnerships with banks, fintechs, and other key stakeholders in the Kenyan market to enhance Moniepoint’s product reach and service delivery.
  • Customer Acquisition and Retention: Develop strategies to acquire and retain SME customers in Kenya, particularly businesses transacting below $1 million annually. Drive relationship-building with key clients to establish long-term business.
  • Product and Market Alignment: Collaborate with the product and marketing teams to ensure the products are tailored to meet the needs of Kenyan SMEs, enhancing product-market fit.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with local leadership, including the SUMAC team, to ensure compliance, legal, and regulatory requirements are met while maintaining a focus on sales.
  • Partnerships Strategy: Develop and execute a robust partnerships strategy, positioning Moniepoint as the go-to platform for Kenyan importers and exporters through alliances with relevant industry players.
  • Revenue Growth: Drive the top-line revenue growth in the double digit millions (In USD) within 3-5 years by consistently increasing sales and expanding the customer base.
  • Sales and Operational Excellence: Oversee the implementation of sales processes, tools, and reporting systems to ensure efficiency and accountability in meeting sales and partnership objectives.
  • Leadership and Team Building: Attract, develop, and retain top sales and partnership talent, fostering a high-performance culture.

Qualifications:

  • Sales and Partnership Leadership: Proven experience in building and leading successful sales and partnerships teams, particularly in this specific product vertical (more will be shared during the interview process) or more broadly in the financial services industry.
  • SME Focus: Demonstrated success in working with SME importers and exporters, with a deep understanding of their specific financial needs and market challenges.
  • FX Expertise: Strong background in foreign exchange sales and partnerships, with the ability to articulate and implement FX strategies tailored for SMEs.  
  • Kenyan Market Knowledge: Hands-on experience in the Kenyan market with a solid understanding of the local business environment, including relevant industry relationships.
  • Fintech/Financial Services Experience: Prior experience in a fintech or financial services company with a focus on B2B sales and partnerships
  • Strategic Growth: Proven ability to develop and execute strategies that have led to significant revenue growth, particularly growing a company’s book of business to double-digit millions in USD.
  • Partnerships and Business Development: Extensive experience building and managing partnerships within the financial services sector, driving business growth through strategic alliances.
  • Team Leadership: Experience in recruiting, developing, and managing a high-performing sales and partnerships team from scratch, fostering a results-driven culture.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of sales and commercial strategy, particularly as it relates to the FX related needs of importers and exporters in Kenya.

Key Outcomes expected from you in the role:

  • First 3 Months: Set up a high-performing sales team, establish key relationships with industry stakeholders, and lay the foundation for strategic growth.
  • First 6 Months: Build a healthy sales pipeline, launch our services to the SME market, and solidify key partnerships.
  • 3-5 Years: Drive the top-line revenue to $30-50 million through consistent acquisition of SME customers and expansion of partnerships in this product/services space.

  • A cultural interview / conversation with another Moniepoint team member in Kenya
  • An interview with our Group CEO
