About the role

Location : United Kingdom (Full-time), work from office three days a week 

As our VP Product Payments, you are a business leader, and you will have overall accountability for leading and managing the product vision, strategy and roadmap for our payments product and for leading the paymens organization for our new international product line. You will take the perspective of “CEO of the product”, responsible for the market vision and development of our Payments products, as well as the general success of the business line.

You will have P&L responsibility and directly lead the product, engineering and operations teams who are building from scratch our payment systems and services, powering this international product line, which includes but is not limited to global pay ins, pay outs, and accounts (issuing accounts, managing customer balances).

Because of the deeply technical nature of payments, we are ideally looking for a leader who started out their career in engineering before moving into product management who has prior experience building payment systems. What you'll get to do as our VP Product, Payments can be broken down into five areas: 

Management:

  • Take ownership of the KPIs, and achieve associated goals for the product.
  • Prioritise and execute initiatives to achieve the product’s goals in the fastest and most efficient way possible.
  • Provide highly effective management to each of the individuals in your team, to drive maximum performance.
  • Create, plan and execute user research to drive business outcomes.
  • Systematically create and explore opportunities and solutions for ideas that solve customer problems, deeply understanding the competitive context and data underpinning the product.
  • Gain a deep understanding of customer experience, identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that grow market share, improve customer stickiness and increase revenue.

Product Development:

  • Ensure any initiatives taken forward to build are clearly defined and tested, such that engineering resources are focused on building, optimising and maintaining products that deliver maximum impact.
  • Ensure the product being delivered is in line with the customer's current and future expected requirements.

Product Analytics:

  • Define, set up and monitor key product KPIs and goals in line with the business objectives.
  • Generate insights and recommendations based on product usage and act upon them to optimise the product.

Payment Operations:

  • Build & lead the payment ops team which handles disputes, settlement & reconciliation, chargebacks & fund recovery.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure smooth and compliant payment operations.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and hold operational team leads accountable, 
  • Monitor / analyze operational metrics to drive efficiency, reduce chargebacks, and resolve disputes effectively.
  • Guide the team’s effort to build internal tools which improve payment processing / dispute handling 

Other:

  • Constantly be on the lookout for ways to improve monitoring, discover issues and deliver better value. 
  • Work closely with engineers to manage technical debt, deal with technical issues and ensure the ongoing technical health of our payment systems & services.

To be an incredible fit you most likely have:

  • 8+ years of product management experience in complex environments, ideally in a fintech or in banking.
  • Ideally you have exposure to building payment products (pay ins and pay outs) in the UK and one developing region (MENA, APAC, LatAm, etc.) 
  • You are a subject matter expert and have a deep technical understanding of payment products (down to an API-level of detail) and experience building payment systems from scratch.
  • Deep understanding of other aspects of payments and hands on experience with double-entry accounting, reconciliation, settlement, disputes, chargebacks, and fund recovery.
  • Proven leadership experience, owning business outcomes and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Skilled at creating roadmaps and prioritizing in stakeholder-heavy environments.
  • Proficient in user research, usability testing, and data analysis techniques.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities.
  • Extensive experience in product management, working w/ cross-functional teams (engineering, marketing, legal, etc.).
  • Collaborative leader willing to roll up sleeves and build when needed.
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.
