The Insurance & Contract Specialist plays a key role in supporting all insurance and contract-related activities within a heavy civil construction environment. Working with minimal supervision, this individual reviews insurance provisions within contracts, manages insurance-related documentation, and maintains a strong understanding of Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP) and Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs (CCIP). Success in this role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to effectively prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities 

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of initial contracts, identifying key benefits, risks, and potential disadvantages; exercise independent judgment in evaluating contract terms, making recommendations, and coordinating legal and insurance reviews to support informed business decisions
  • Oversee all project specific insurance coverages throughout the lifecycle of the project, the respective extended reporting period and/or completed operations period
  • Evaluate and manage Owner supplied (i.e., builders’ risk, OCIP) and other project specific insurance policies to ensure the adequacy of such coverage and to identify any gaps in coverage; recommend alternatives and solutions. Manage and track enrollments in project specific insurance programs
  • Assist with the procurement of appropriate contract specific insurance coverages to comply with contract insurance requirements, joint venture bids, builders risk insurance and accompanying certificates of insurance
  • Present insurance coverage issues related to construction contracts, lease agreements, subcontract agreements and consultant agreements to management
  • Analyze and understand insurable risks and potential risk mitigation opportunities; interact with project teams to ensure coordination between project activities, exposures, and appropriate insurance coverages

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and  5+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven and an acceptable driving record as determined by the Michels Review Team
