
Senior Accounting Officer - Oman
Purpose/ Mission:
The Senior Accounting Officer is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with Omani regulations and company policies, and supporting financial controls and audits. The role will also assist in budgeting, tax matters, and financial analysis to support business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations
- Manage and oversee daily accounting activities including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and month-end closing activities.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure proper documentation of financial transactions.
- Monitor cash flow and support treasury-related activities.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with company policies.
- Support preparation of variance analysis and financial performance reports.
Compliance & Tax
- Ensure compliance with Omani tax regulations, VAT requirements, and statutory obligations.
- Support tax filings, audits, and regulatory reporting.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and government authorities when required.
Budgeting & Controls
- Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Monitor internal controls and recommend process improvements.
- Support implementation and compliance of accounting policies and procedures.
ERP & Systems
- Maintain accounting data within ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
- Support system improvements and automation initiatives.
Regional Finance Support
- Support Regional Finance Team on financial reporting and data submission.
- Coordinate on month-end closing, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
- Ensure alignment with regional policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
Team Support
- Provide guidance to junior accounting staff when required.
- Support cross-functional coordination with procurement, HR, operations, and finance teams.
Requirements/ Skills/ Experience:
- Minimum 5–8 years of accounting experience, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, steel, energy, or large corporate environments.
- Experience working in Oman or GCC region preferred.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, VAT, and local statutory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and reporting.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Experience in project accounting or manufacturing cost accounting.
- Experience in startup or greenfield industrial projects is an advantage.
- Arabic language skills are a plus.
Required Education/ Qualification/ Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent is preferred.
Required Language Proficiency:
English - Fluent
