Senior Materials Handling & Logistics Engineer

Purpose / Mission:

Lead the engineering definition and owner-side delivery of the materials handling and logistics scope for the 2.5 Mtpa green Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) / Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) plant in Duqm, Oman. Covers raw material import from the dry bulk terminal, in-plant bulk materials flow, stockyard and storage systems, the interim electric truck fleet solution, the permanent conveyor corridor, and HBI export handling at the finished product berth. Lead interface management with the port authority and port development partner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the owner's engineering of ship unloading and topsides equipment at the dry bulk terminal for pellet import.
  • Lead the design and specification of stockyards, transfer systems and in-plant bulk materials flow.
  • Own the engineering, operational concept and delivery of the interim electric truck fleet solution providing the bridging materials transport capability, including charging, operations, and transition planning.
  • Lead the engineering definition of the permanent conveyor corridor between the port and the plant stockyards, including transition from the interim truck fleet.
  • Lead the engineering for HBI export handling equipment and systems at the finished product berth.
  • Provide owner-side specification, tender support, evaluation and award recommendation for the Materials Handling EPC package.
  • Lead the interface with the port authority and port development partner on materials handling scope, operational protocols, and shared facilities.
  • Integrate materials handling requirements with process plant input and output flows, utility requirements and site infrastructure.
  • Support cost estimate development for the materials handling scope to FID-level accuracy.
  • Provide materials handling input to HAZID, HAZOP, traffic management and transport safety studies, including those associated with the electric truck fleet operation.

Requirements / Skills / Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in bulk materials handling engineering on heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong experience with ship unloaders, conveyors, stockyard systems, transfer houses, and port-plant interface design.
  • Experience on integrated port and heavy industrial plant projects, preferably steel, iron ore, mining, cement, or bulk minerals.
  • Demonstrated experience leading materials handling engineering from FEED through EPC tender, construction and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (CEMA, FEM, ISO) for bulk handling equipment.
  • Exposure to innovative logistics solutions, including electric vehicle fleets, autonomous haulage, or comparable non-standard materials transport concepts, is a strong advantage.
  • Prior GCC or extreme-environment project experience preferred, particularly experience operating equipment in high ambient temperature and humid coastal environments.
  • Proven capability to manage interface complexity between port authorities, shipping operations, and plant operations.
  • Strong command of traffic management, transport safety and plant logistics planning.
  • Commercial awareness in contractor management, procurement and tender evaluation.

Required Education / Qualification / Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Materials Handling Engineering (required).
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
  • Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer or equivalent internationally recognized professional status (preferred).
  • Member of a recognized professional engineering institution (preferred).
