Engineering Manager
Mentimeter is an engagement tool with a clear goal in mind. To turn presentations into conversations. Through real-time interactivity and clear visualizations, we get people to participate, engage and become more productive. Transforming all those passive meetings, airless classrooms and drawn out trainings into valuable and memorable moments.
We truly believe that you achieve the best results by doing things together. And that successful leaders need to adopt a curious and collaborative mindset in order to get there. So with you at Mentimeter, you’ll be a big part of the ambition to help over 1 billion people listen, learn and work better together.
The role
Mentimeter is looking for an Engineering Manager to join and raise the level of engineering craft across teams.
This is not a delivery management role. It is a craft leadership role with with 10+ direct reports, while staying close to engineering work.
Your primary responsibility is to grow engineers into high-performing product engineers, people who write high-quality code, design robust systems, make sound technical trade-offs, and understand the impact of their work on users and the business.
You bring recent, hands-on engineering experience and strong technical judgment. You don’t need to contribute production code daily, but you are expected to go deep: reviewing code and system design, challenging decisions, and coaching engineers through real technical problems. You set the bar for what “good” looks like, and you help others reach it.
You primarily work across teams, rather than being embedded in a single team. Through 1:1s, performance conversations, and collaboration with Staff Engineers and Product Managers, you identify patterns, raise standards, and drive continuous improvement in how we build software.
Delivery is owned by teams. Your focus is capability: ensuring engineers grow, craft improves, and teams become more autonomous and effective over time.
You’ll play a key role in shaping how product engineering evolves at Mentimeter, from defining craft excellence to embedding AI-augmented ways of working into everyday engineering practice.
This role is not for you if
- You prefer to stay far from code and technical discussions
- You see engineering management primarily as delivery or project management
- You are not comfortable reviewing code, discussing system design, or challenging decisions
- You want to own delivery execution or be the central coordinator for a team
- You prefer stable environments over continuous improvement and evolving practices
The team
You’ll be working closely with Product Managers, Designers, Staff Engineers, and other Engineering Managers.
Our teams are autonomous and cross-functional, owning their product areas end-to-end. As an Engineering Manager, you operate across these teams, supporting engineers in their growth, identifying patterns and opportunities across teams, and strengthening how we build products together.
The work spans multiple dimensions: coaching individuals, improving engineering practices, supporting hiring and calibration, and helping engineers adopt a stronger product engineering mindset. You’ll collaborate closely with peers to shape the craft agenda and ensure we continuously raise the bar.
What you’ll do
- Coach and develop engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and clear growth plans
- Own performance management for your reports, including calibration and compensation input
- Challenge decisions around system design to ensure high standards in quality, scalability, and maintainability
- Identify recurring technical challenges across teams and drive improvements
- Partner with Staff Engineers to define and evolve engineering standards
- Help engineers connect technical decisions to user and business outcomes
- Support teams in adopting modern development practices, including AI-augmented workflows
- Contribute to hiring by attracting, assessing, and closing strong engineering talent
Example impact in this role could include:
- Raising system reliability across multiple teams through better observability practices
- Coaching engineers through a major architectural shift or scaling challenge
- Improving code quality and review practices, leading to fewer production issues
Who you are
You are an experienced engineer who has stayed close to the craft and built a strong technical foundation. You have worked on real systems, made trade-offs in production, and understand what high-quality engineering looks like in practice.
Today, you combine that technical depth with a passion for developing others. You care about raising the bar, not just for individuals, but across teams, and you know how to turn abstract “quality” into concrete, observable improvements.
You are comfortable going deep in technical discussions, giving actionable feedback on engineering work, and coaching engineers through complex challenges. You bring strong judgment in areas like system design, code quality, and ways of working.
You think beyond implementation. You help engineers understand problem spaces, make better trade-offs, and connect their work to real outcomes.
You communicate clearly, build trust, and know how to balance supporting individuals with driving broader craft improvements across an Area.
It’s a big plus if you have
- Recent experience as a software engineer, tech lead, or similar role working on production systems
- Experience defining and raising engineering standards across teams
- Strong understanding of modern engineering practices (testing strategies, observability, scalable systems, developer experience)
- Experience supporting teams in adopting new technologies and ways of working, including AI-assisted development
- Experience hiring and calibrating engineers with a strong focus on craft
- Experience working in a product-led SaaS environment
Not required
Swedish is not required – daily work is carried out in English, and the Mentimeter team currently boasts over 50 nationalities. A college degree is not strictly required.

- AI does not screen or decide on candidates.
- There is no automated filtering, ranking, or decision-making in our recruitment process. Every application is reviewed by a person.
- Hiring teams may use AI to support their work - for example, to structure notes, prepare interview questions, or organize their thinking.
