Data Engineer (Event & Martech Background)

Stockholm

Mentimeter is an engagement tool with a clear goal in mind. To turn presentations into conversations. Through real-time interactivity and clear visualizations, we get people to participate, engage and become more productive. Transforming all those passive meetings, airless classrooms and drawn out trainings into valuable and memorable moments.

We truly believe that you achieve the best results by doing things together. And that successful leaders need to adopt a curious and collaborative mindset in order to get there. So with you at Mentimeter, you’ll be a big part of the ambition to help over 1 billion people listen, learn and work better together.

Modern data platforms are built on events. Not just logs or tracking points, but well-defined, trustworthy signals that describe how users interact with products and systems over time. As a Data Engineer with an Event background, you will help build and evolve the event-driven foundations that power analytics, growth, personalization, and decision-making across the company.

This role is part of the Data Platform team, where we design and maintain the core data infrastructure that serves Product, Marketing, Growth, and Analytics. You will focus on capturing canonical domain events and transform them to high-quality datasets that downstream systems — from warehouses to activation tools — can rely on with confidence.

The Data Engineering Team

The Data Engineering team builds and owns the data platform that enables the organization to understand its users and its business. We work closely with Product Engineering, Growth, Marketing, and Analytics to ensure that data is reliable, observable, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Within the team, this role brings deep expertise in event-based data modeling and martech-adjacent systems, strengthening  Mentimeter’s our ability to reason about user behavior, lifecycle metrics, and cause-and-effect across touchpoints. Your work will directly influence how events are defined, ingested, validated, and activated throughout the data ecosystem.

What you’ll do

  • Model event data in the warehouse to support analytics, growth metrics, and lifecycle analysis.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and observability across event pipelines.
  • Collaborate with marketing and growth teams to enable reliable activation and personalization through tools such as Braze.
  • Ensure GDPR and PII understanding and compliance across data flows, including consent handling and secure storage.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and best practices within the Data Engineering team.
  • Act as the technical owner for Braze, including:
    • Defining and maintaining the event and user attribute contracts that power messaging, journeys, and personalization.
    • Ensuring data correctness, timeliness, and consistency between the warehouse and Braze.
    • Partnering with Marketing and Growth to enable safe, scalable activation patterns.

We believe you have

  • Several years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or data-heavy backend engineer.
  • Strong experience working with event-driven data models and behavioral data.
  • Hands-on experience with event ingestion platforms (Segment or similar).
  • Solid programming and data skills (e.g. SQL, Python, and/or JVM-based languages).
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines in a modern cloud data stack.
  • A strong understanding of data quality, observability, and reliability.
  • The ability to understand and explain cause and effect in marketing and product data.
  • Clear written communication skills in English and comfort working cross-functionally.

It’s a big plus if you have

  • Experience working closely with martech platforms such as Braze.
  • Previous experience as a Growth Engineer or in growth-focused product teams.
  • Experience with streaming or near real-time data systems.
  • Familiarity with user lifecycle frameworks and activation metrics.
  • Experience working with GDPR-sensitive datasets at scale.

AI and Hiring at Mentimeter
At Mentimeter, we believe AI helps us work smarter - but it never replaces the human assessment, curiosity, and personal connection that define our culture and our hiring. We use AI as a sparring partner: to bounce ideas, bring new perspectives, support structure, and make our work more efficient. But the meaning, decisions, and interactions always come from people.
  • AI does not screen or decide on candidates.
  •  There is no automated filtering, ranking, or decision-making in our recruitment process. Every application is reviewed by a person.
  • Hiring teams may use AI to support their work - for example, to structure notes, prepare interview questions, or organize their thinking.
AI strengthens our work, but it does not define it. At Mentimeter, we’re not building an AI-driven hiring process - we’re building a people-first culture, where technology helps us listen, learn, and grow together.

Culture at Mentimeter
At Mentimeter we believe in giving everyone a voice - regardless of who you are. So we build a platform that does just that. Our platform is not only our product but also our organization. A platform where people feel safe, where differences are embraced, a place where you can have fun. We strongly encourage applicants who are people of color, LGBTQ+, women, people with disabilities, and/or formerly incarcerated people, and a college degree is not strictly required. In order to give everyone a voice, we need to be as diverse as our users.
