Who we are

Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 75 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado.

Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

  • Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default

The impact you will make

As a Senior Experimental Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in translating scientific objectives into practical, high quality experimental hardware, diagnostics and workflows. You will ensure that technical developments for experiments are executed with clarity, rigor, repeatability and technical excellence. Your role sits at the intersection of engineering discipline and scientific curiosity. It requires an understanding of experimental fusion/ laser matter/ plasma environments, hands-on capability with experimental hardware and the ability to guide a team towards rapidly developing solutions for evolving scientific needs.

Your responsibilities

  • Partner with scientists and technical leads to interpret experimental objectives and guide them in translating them into experimental setups and diagnostic systems
  • Lead hands-on technical execution of the design, implementation and commissioning of experimental hardware, working alongside the team while setting technical direction and standards
  • Mentor and coach engineers in experimental methods, alignment practices, calibration strategies and disciplined troubleshooting approaches
  • Enable rapid R&D iteration by pragmatic design choices, risk-aware prototyping and fast learning cycles
  • Define and maintain documentation standards for experiment hardware and diagnostic instruments, including procedures, alignment methods, calibration routines and safe operating practices, with an emphasis on clarity and usability
  • Bridge physics and engineering perspectives by translating scientific requirements into clear engineering principles, constraints and acceptance criteria
  • Lead structured problem-solving efforts for complex system issues, e.g., supporting engineers in root-cause analysis or other processes

What you bring

  • BSc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in experimental engineering or diagnostics within complex scientific or industrial environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts and mentor engineers in hands-on experimental work
  • Strong foundation in experimental hardware, alignment, calibration and instrumentation, with the judgment to guide others
  • Experience working across mechanical, electrical, software and physics domains
  • Clear, structured communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction without formal authority

What sets you apart

  • Experience with fusion experiments, plasma diagnostics, laser systems or particle accelerator environments
  • Background in optics, imaging, high-speed data acquisition or precision instrumentation
  • Familiarity with simulation or modeling tools used to inform experiment design
  • Experience building stable, reproducible experiment platforms in fast-moving R&D environments
