The impact you will make

We are looking for a Health, Safety Environment (HSE) Specialist/Spezialist für Arbeitssicherheit to take care of our occupational safety and continue to improve HSE culture within our company.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our experimental team. Together with experimental physicists and engineers, you will conduct safety assessments in areas including laser safety, electrical safety, and chemical safety. You will work side by side with our Safety Manager to advance the safety concept of our future facilities and experimental campaigns.

Your HSE tasks will cover approximately 50% of your working time. The remaining working time you will -depending on your qualifications- support our Experimental Physics Department or our Engineering Department.

Your responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the company’s occupational safety, supporting the different specialist departments 
  • Continue to develop the company’s integrated safety management system, defining HSE goals and policies 
  • Plan and implement HSE processes: conduct risk assessments, determine control measures for safe operation, perform root cause incident analysis, and implement continuous improvements to ensure the safety of our team  
  • Support and guide our team managers on HSE awareness and implement programs to improve the safety culture of our team 
  • Define, implement, and coordinate the delivery of relevant safety trainings 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company internal requirements 
  • Support in planning occupational health care, company safety drills, and office safety tasks 

What you bring

  • Experience in developing, implementing, and leading HSE programs with a focus on safety areas such as laser safety, chemical safety, pressure equipment safety, and electrical safety 
  • Completed degree or certification in HSE as "Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit” or comparable with a focus on occupational safety 
  • Knowledge of German (DGUV) and European HSE (89/391/EEC) regulations as well as international standards such as ISO45001, ISO14001
  • Fluent in both German (C1 level) and English is a must 
  • Strong safety culture and ability to motivate leaders and employees 
  • Excellent communication skills and a structured working style  
  • A healthy amount of flexibility, adaptability, and can-do attitude

What sets you apart

  • Bachelor or Master of Science, Engineering, or vocational training as a technician in a relevant field
  • Experience with safety aspects of large-scale scientific experimental setups (e.g. particle accelerators, large vacuum assemblies)
