MariaDB is making a big impact on the world. Whether you’re checking your bank account, buying a coffee, shopping online, making a phone call, listening to music, taking out a loan or ordering takeout – MariaDB is the backbone of applications used everyday. Companies small and large, including 75% of the Fortune 500, run MariaDB, touching the lives of billions of people. With massive reach through Linux distributions, enterprise deployments and public clouds, MariaDB is uniquely positioned as the leading database for modern application development.

About the Role

Modern applications demand a data foundation that is not only fast and reliable but also intelligent and infinitely scalable. At MariaDB, we are building the data platform that powers these mission-critical systems. We are seeking a technical and customer-focused Product Manager to help drive the strategy and execution for the core of our platform: our distributed database engine, integrated AI capabilities, and high-availability solutions.

This is an important role at the intersection of distributed systems, OLTP, high availability, and open-source innovation. You will contribute to the product direction for our scalable distributed architecture, our core MariaDB-based OLTP server, and our synchronous high-availability offerings powered by Galera Cluster. You will be the voice of the developer and the enterprise architect, translating their most complex challenges into a product roadmap that pushes the boundaries of what a database can do. While providing key product support for our core MariaDB-based OLTP server, you will collaborate with the open-source community that is core to our identity. Your work will empower organizations worldwide to build resilient, high-performance applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy & Vision: Contribute to and communicate a compelling product strategy for our distributed database, OLTP systems, and high-availability solutions, grounded in market research, competitive analysis, and direct customer engagement.
  • Roadmap & Backlog Management: Manage and prioritize the product backlog for your areas of ownership, working with senior product leaders on the overall roadmap and making data-driven trade-off decisions to balance new feature development, architectural improvements, and technical debt.
  • Technical Specification: Collaborate closely with engineering teams to translate the product vision into detailed technical requirements, user stories, and product specifications for distributed architectures, OLTP systems, and HA mechanisms.
  • Go-to-Market Collaboration: Partner with Product Marketing to support the development of positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategies. Create technical content, product demos, and sales enablement materials that clearly articulate our value proposition.
  • Community & Ecosystem Collaboration: Serve as a technical product expert. Collaborate with developer relations to support our open-source community, gathering feedback and representing their needs to inform the product roadmap.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Ensure alignment across engineering, marketing, sales, and support, working with product leadership to communicate progress and dependencies to all stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of product management experience, with a focus on deeply technical products such as database internals, distributed systems, and data infrastructure.
  • A strong technical background, demonstrated by a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong understanding of distributed database architectures (e.g., CAP theorem, sharding, consensus protocols, replication) and OLTP systems.
  • Proven track record of launching successful enterprise software or SaaS products from concept to market adoption.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both engineering teams and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with the MariaDB or MySQL database ecosystems.
  • Hands-on experience with high-availability and clustering technologies, particularly Galera Cluster.
  • Experience engaging with an open-source software community.
  • Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their data services.
  • An advanced degree (MS in Computer Science), MBA or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of OLTP workload optimization, including indexing strategies, query planning, and performance tuning.
  • Expertise in distributed database systems, such as handling data partitioning, replication models, and fault-tolerant consensus algorithms.
  • Proficiency in database security practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards for high-availability environments.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning in distributed OLTP databases.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
