MariaDB is looking for an experienced security engineer to continue enhancing security for both MariaDB Corporation and our cloud services. As part of the Security team,  you will collaborate across departments to build, maintain, and operate a comprehensive security program.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and prioritize security features for cloud offerings.
  • Work with engineering/product management to ensure implementation of security features in all layers of our on-prem and cloud database products.
  • Provide written security expert opinion for product and corporate security features.
  • Assist in compliance and certification programs.
  • Audit, detect and remediate critical security exposures in AWS, Azure and GCP Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Perform key Security Operations functions for MariaDB’s Corporate and Cloud Infrastructure: Vulnerability Management, Security Incident Management, Security Incident Response etc.
  • Identify new security threats by conducting continuous monitoring, penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and log analysis.
  • Maintain strong awareness of events in the external community to identify threats and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Daily review and resolution of security issues as a result of assessments and other sources.
  • Conduct investigation of security incidents in coordination with internal teams.
  • Conduct security review and acceptance of new products or feature changes.
  • Develop new and maintain existing automation for security tasks such as assessments, audit evidence collection, logging, monitoring, reporting etc.
  • Provide technical hands-on support to ensure consistent security controls are maintained for cloud infrastructure and microservices.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years related experience in Computer Security.
  • Team player with good communication skills.
  • Ability to document complex security issues in detail.
  • Takes responsibility and accountability for tasks assigned.
  • Ability to independently research and create solutions based on team goals.
  • Professional attitude towards colleagues.
  • Security and privacy mindset.
  • Methodically reviews internal and external security alerts and data sources, 3rd party vulnerability disclosures.
  • Understanding of basic cryptography, security principles, networking, application security, attack paths. 
  • Proficiency in security automation.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Expert understanding of cloud architecture and security (AWS,GCP, Azure; all three clouds preferred, at least two required).
  • Expert knowledge of Kubernetes. 
  • Hands-on enterprise experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform).
  • Experience with using security tools/solutions (e.g. CNAP, EDR, vulnerability scanning and static code analysis).
  • Development experience with Bash, Python, Go, and Terraform.
  • DevSecOps development and implementation experience.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD systems and their architectures.
  • Threat modelling experience.
  • Commitment to documenting all aspects of the work for the benefit of the team, from analysis, design documentation, implementation details to development activities. Strong willingness to educate others in the team. 
  • Experience in designing and implementing standards, specifications and procedures.
  • Experience investigating security incidents and documenting evidence artifacts.

Bonus Experience and Skills

  • Understanding of SOC2, EO 14028 and GRC compliance program requirements is a plus. 
  • MariaDB/MySQL or other RDBMS experience
