Manager, Solutions Engineering

The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager, Solutions Engineering to lead a team of pre-sales engineers focused on our open-source database solutions. You will play a critical role in enabling our customers' success by aligning technical solutions to their business needs, mentoring a high-performing team, and collaborating with sales, product, and engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of Solutions Engineers supporting pre-sales activities for open-source database technologies
- Define and execute strategies to improve technical win rates and customer satisfaction
- Participating in sales calls and onsite visits with prospects to make technical presentations
- To understand customer requirements and translate them into a technical solution
- Collaborate with Sales Leadership to align SE resources to strategic opportunities
- Provide technical guidance during the customer journey – from discovery through POCs to implementation
- Ensure the team stays current with industry trends, open source ecosystem developments, and best practices
- Engage with Product Management to provide field feedback on customer needs and roadmap priorities
- Create and scale reusable assets such as demos, architecture diagrams, and documentation to support the field
- Represent the company at conferences, meetups, and open-source community events
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years in pre-sales engineering, technical consulting, or solution architecture, with 2+ years in a management or team lead role
- Track record in software solution pre-sales, with database experience
- Running workshops and demos to evaluate new technologies
- Ensuring the technical win for each sales opportunity
- Collaborate with Services delivery teams for onsite visits to key accounts
- Knowledge of MariaDB and/or MySQL, certifications recommended
- Deep understanding of open-source database systems
- NoSQL - MongoDB, Redis, Apache Cassandra
- SQL - Oracle, Sybase, DB2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL
- Knowledge of database design, administration, and architecture
- Experience with Web/Application environments recommended
- Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, Weblogic, Websphere, Lighthttd
- Sysadmin experience from the following operating systems
- Linux RedHat/CentOS and Debian/Ubuntu
- Windows 2000 and 2003 server.
- Experience with virtualization & containerization software
- Xen, Virtualbox, Vmware
- Docker
- MesoSphere, Kubernetes
- Strong people leadership and mentoring skills
- Demonstrated experience in complex sales cycles and proof-of-concept engagements
- Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Interact including training with Channel and other Go To Market Partners
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both technical and business-focused
Preferred Qualifications:
- Contributions to open source projects or communities
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, or data engineering pipelines
- Prior experience at a database or data infrastructure company
- Ability to travel – This remote role will require travel where appropriate
- Ability to work remotely
Preferred Qualifications:
Multiple languages multi-country experience is a plus.

Compensation:
The annual anticipated U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is USD $160,000.00 - $200,000.00 plus commissions.
Actual salaries may vary and fall outside of this range depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, and competencies.
In addition, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than the job description as posted.
