Purpose of the role
The purpose of the role is to work within the Second Line of Defence facilitating MAMIL’s and the wider Man Group’s Risk Management Frameworks, helping to promote a risk management culture across Man and to maintain the integrity of its control framework. This will primarily involve providing support to both MAMIL’s Designated Person (“DP”) for Fund Risk Management (PCF-39C) and the DP for Operational Risk Management (PCF-39B).
The role will have a dual reporting line to both DPs.
We are looking for an energetic, self-motivated graduate with a keen intellectual curiosity and a desire to add value and to be part of a small yet highly dynamic team. This very exciting and varied role will have two components:
- The fund risk management role will cover a range of multi-asset class portfolios across all investment engines, including discretionary and quantitative investment managers.
- Support the oversight of operational risk management including cyber security and other pertinent areas of operational risk (with a particular nexus to MAMIL).
Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth risk analysis and systematic limit monitoring across all business activities, reporting and escalating exceptions to senior risk personnel.
- Build, enhance, and automate risk management dashboards and reporting tools using Python to provide actionable insights into portfolio exposures
- Collaborate with investment, technology, and operations teams to research and resolve complex risk issues as they arise.
- Contribute to the enhancement of MAMIL’s risk management framework and promote a strong risk-aware culture across all functions at MAMIL and Man Group.
- Assist with ad-hoc fund and operational risk management requests and projects.
- Work closely with the DPs for Fund and Operational Risk Management in helping to prepare the reports for the MAMIL and fund quarterly board meetings.
- Report relevant risk data and information to key stakeholders as and when required.
- Take ownership of MAMIL’s Outsourcing Register by managing all data gathering, preparation, and maintenance activities.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis and financial modelling (experience with libraries like Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and Plotly/Dash is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and interest in finance, portfolio risk management techniques, and quantitative finance.
- Strong with version control systems (e.g., Git) and familiarity with deployment workflows.
- Experience leveraging Generative AI (e.g., Claude, GPT) for coding, analysis, or workflow automation is highly desirable.
- Awareness and interest in operational risk management principles.
- Excellent quantitative and analytical problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to convey complex topics to a diverse audience.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Strong academics in a technical field (e.g. maths, engineering, sciences).
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a Financial Risk, Quantitative Analysis, or similar role.
