Talon. One is the most powerful incentives engine that unifies loyalty, promotions and gamification into one holistic platform.

Backed by enterprise-grade security and scalability, Talon. One empowers companies to build personalized, profitable promotions and loyalty programs using any data. BOUT THE ROLE

At Talon. One, our development teams are made up of curious and driven specialists across frontend, backend, QA, product, and design. We work in small, cross-functional teams—each empowered and autonomous, responsible for owning specific areas of our platform. Our culture is collaborative, transparent, and growth-oriented: mentorship flows in all directions, and we’re constantly learning from each other.

As we continue to scale, we’re looking for a (Senior) Database Engineer to join our engineering organization. In this role, you’ll work closely with backend engineers, DevOps, and product teams to ensure that our database systems are fast, healthy, and future-proof. Your work will directly impact our platform’s performance and scalability, and the experience of millions of users across the globe.

We prefer candidates who are based in Berlin or open to relocating.

ONCE YOU ARE HERE YOU WILL:

  • Collaborate with engineers from various teams to ensure our PostgreSQL infrastructure supports the needs of our real-time, fast-scaling platform.
  • Monitor, maintain, and improve the performance, reliability, and security of our production databases.
  • Come up with strategies to fine-tune auto-vacuum at scale.
  • Design, optimize, and review database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies, striving for integrity and performance.
  • Proactively identify and address database bottlenecks or inefficiencies.
  • Work closely with Backend Engineers to help them arrive at optimal data modeling for performance-sensitive features.
  • Maintain and enhance observability and monitoring tools for our data layer.
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and best practices around database management and data architecture.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in database administration, ideally with PostgreSQL in a production environment.
  • Solid understanding of relational database internals, query planning, indexing, auto-vacuum and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL clustering, replication, partitioning, and backup strategies.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and techniques (e.g., pg_stat_statements, pg_stat_monitor, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar).
  • Experience working in high-availability and high-traffic environments.
  • Understanding of database security best practices.
  • Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL; familiarity with procedural languages (e.g., PL/pgSQL) is a plus.
  • Comfortable working with containerized infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with version-controlled schema migrations and IaC tools like Terraform is a plus.
  • Background in Backend Engineering is a plus, especially experience working closely with developers to design performant, scalable data models.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate effectively with engineers and product stakeholders.
  • Team-first mindset; mentoring others and learning from peers comes naturally to you.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU:

  • 90+ team of engineers, product managers and product designers in Berlin
  • Leaders with 8+ years of experience building our promotions engine
  • €1,000 annual learning budget, full LinkedIn Learning access, and free German language courses to boost your skills
  • 30 days of annual leave, plus extra paid days for your birthday and moving day
  • Home office setup budget, a monthly home office allowance
  • Freedom to work from abroad for up to 90 days worldwide!
  • Mental health support with nilo.health and a discounted Urban Sports Club membership
  • 20% company subsidy on your pension contributions
  • BVG public transport ticket and welcome your furry friend in our dog-friendly Berlin office!
