Description:
The CTO Office at Lightrun plays a strategic, cross-functional role at the intersection of advanced engineering, innovation, and business strategy. You will act as the CTO’s right hand in identifying, researching, and evaluating emerging technologies, tools, and market trends. Your work will help shape the strategic direction of Lightrun’s roadmap and innovation investments.

This position requires deep technical expertise, a product- and customer-centric mindset, and a strong grasp of market dynamics in the developer tools and observability space.

  • Roles and Responsibilities

    • Continuously research, prototype, and assess new technologies, frameworks, developer tools, and observability approaches.

    • Drive technical PoCs and experiments with new capabilities in areas such as GenAI, MCP, A2A, eBPF, real-time telemetry, and IDE integrations.

    • Analyze trends in the developer tooling ecosystem, including competitors, adjacent markets, and evolving customer needs.

    • Translate market insights into actionable strategic input for product planning, GTM alignment, and innovation focus areas.

    • Serve as an internal evangelist for new technologies and industry insights.

    • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and Sales Engineering to drive technology initiatives.

    Requirements

    • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong architectural depth and/or prior experience in a CTO Office or advanced R&D role.

    • Hands-on experience researching and developing GenAI-based products.

    • Proven track record of rapidly ideating, building, and iterating on innovative technical solutions.

    • Experience with products in enterprise environments.

    • Strong understanding of modern development stacks, cloud-native patterns, and open-source ecosystems.

    • Exceptional communication and analytical skills, with the ability to distill complexity for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    • Technical publications, open-source contributions, or speaking engagements – an advantage.

    • Experience engaging directly with customers - advantage
