Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Financial Crime Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in protecting our customers and the business from financial crime risks. This position primarily involves investigating fraud and authorised push payment (APP) scams, alongside Know Your Customer (KYC) responsibilities.

In addition to fraud and KYC duties, the role requires conducting transaction monitoring and sanctions screening investigations to detect and mitigate money laundering, sanctions breaches, and other financial crime risks. You will also handle investigations driven by external intelligence sources, ensuring all regulatory and operational obligations are met.

Key Responsibilities

Fraud and APP Investigations:

  • Conduct end-to-end investigations of fraud and APP scam cases.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for fraud/APP reimbursement.
  • Utilise specialist systems for fraud detection and reporting.

KYC and Customer Due Diligence:

  • Perform onboarding and ongoing KYC reviews, including Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk customers.
  • Identify and escalate suspicious activity in line with AML regulations.

 Broader Financial Crime Investigations:

  • Conduct investigations into sanctions matches, PEPs, and adverse media alerts.
  • Analyse unusual transaction patterns and escalate potential money laundering risks.
  • Monitor and respond to alerts generated by transaction monitoring systems.
  • Investigate external intelligence referrals related to potential financial crime risks.

 Policy and Process Adherence

  • Ensure compliance with internal financial crime policies and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of investigations and actions taken.
  • Contribute to policy reviews and process improvements based on investigation outcomes.

 Adaptability and Initiative

  • Work proactively to identify and mitigate emerging financial crime risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new controls and strategies.
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and industry best practices.

 

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in fraud and APP scam investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of KYC processes.
  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks such as UK Money Laundering Regulations and Proceeds of Crime Act.
  • Experience investigating cases based on both internal alerts and external reports/intelligence.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data and patterns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in using both in house and external financial crime systems and tools.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in card fraud investigations.
  • Knowledge of sanctions screening and PEP investigation processes.
  • Familiarity with transaction monitoring systems and alerts.
  • Experience in undertaking Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
