Purpose for the role - The mechanical engineer plays a key role in delivering high quality & technically sound mechanical design solutions across SCX's portfolio of engineering projects. working across all stages of the project lifecycle from concept through to manufacture and commissioning. This role ensures that mechanical designs are accurate, compliant, cost effective and aligned with the client and regulatory requirements.

Operating within a collaborative, multi disciplinary environment, the mechanical engineer is responsible for producing detailed engineering documentation, supporting validation activities and contributing to project success through technical leadership and design excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver mechanical design across concept, detailed design, and manufacturing phases.
  • Produce accurate 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, budgets, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Prepare technical documentation (risk assessments, calculations, compliance files, O&M manuals).
  • Validate designs through calculations, simulation, and testing.
  • Support prototype testing, FAT/SAT, and CE marking processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical support during build, test, and commissioning.
  • Manage workload, track progress, and engage professionally with clients and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and best practice development.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven mechanical design engineering experience in project-based environments.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and materials.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor) and technical documentation.
  • Skilled in engineering calculations, validation, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with shifting priorities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional registration (IEng/CEng) or working towards it.
  • Experience with moving machinery, automation, or complex assemblies.
  • Familiarity with regulated sectors (Defence, Nuclear, Aerospace).
