Electrical Design Engineer (Data Centres) 

Location: Limerick or Dublin, Ireland 
Travel: Domestic & international travel required 

Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with experience in data centre or mission-critical projects looking to further develop your career? We are seeking a motivated and technically strong engineer to support the design and delivery of complex electrical systems within large-scale data centre environments. 

This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile hyperscale and mission-critical projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and experienced engineering professionals in a fast-paced environment. 

About the Role 

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will contribute to the engineering, design, and coordination of advanced electrical systems for data centre projects. Working closely with senior engineers, project teams, clients, and contractors, you will be responsible for producing high-quality designs that meet project requirements, industry standards, and regulatory compliance obligations. 

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. 

Key Responsibilities 

In this role, you will: 

  • Prepare and deliver high-quality electrical designs for data centre and mission-critical projects. 
  • Assist in the development of electrical power distribution, control, ICT, security/monitoring, and fire detection system designs. 
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery. 
  • Support client, vendor, and contractor engagements throughout the design process. 
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, design guides, Building Regulations, EN/IEC standards, ETCI or BS7671 requirements, and industry best practices. 
  • Produce technical reports, calculations, specifications, and design documentation. 
  • Carry out electrical system studies and analyses using appropriate engineering software tools. 
  • Contribute to design reviews, value engineering exercises, and technical problem-solving activities. 
  • Maintain accurate project records and support quality assurance processes. 
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry developments, and best practices within the data centre sector. 

What We're Looking For 

We are seeking an engineer with: 

  • Strong communication and organisational skills. 
  • Experience in electrical systems design, ideally within data centre or mission-critical environments. 
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. 
  • A methodical and detail-oriented approach to engineering design. 
  • Experience liaising with clients, vendors, contractors, and project stakeholders. 
  • Good knowledge of ETCI/BS7671 regulations, Building Regulations, EN/IEC Standards, and relevant industry design guides. 
  • Experience using software such as Amtech, ETAP, EPLAN P8, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, CDEGS, Adobe Pro/Bluebeam, MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Revit/Navisworks. 
  • Experience working on data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, or other mission-critical projects. 
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems and associated design principles. 
  • Ability to travel as required. 

Experience & Qualifications 

  • Third-level diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering. 
  • 3-5 years' experience in electrical design engineering. 
  • 1-2 years' experience working on data centre or mission-critical projects is desirable. 
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects. 
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. 
  • Membership of Engineers Ireland, IET, or a similar professional body would be advantageous. 
  • Working towards professional accreditation or chartership is desirable.
