Role Purpose
Reporting to the Lead MEP Co-ordinator, the MEP Detailer has responsibility for delivering all 3D and 2D co-ordination milestones on each project, in line with Kirby’s Digital Construction Department standards, ISO-19650 aligned workflows, and project-specific BEP’s, TIDPs and MIDPs. The MEP Detailer must ensure coordinated installation, support off‑site manufacturing opportunities, and enable high‑quality project handover. The role of the MEP Detailer is project specific, and detailers will be based on site within a BIM environment when requested. When not working on a project the MEP Detailer will be based within their Business Unit office and report to the Lead MEP Co-ordinator. They may need to assist with other smaller projects and produce tender information.

Key Functions

  • Support the project team with regard to all co-ordination deliverables.
  • Produce coordinated, constructible 3D models and 2D drawings, aligned to Kirby Procedure and ISO workflows, as set by the (Lead) MEP Coordinator.
  • Execution of structured coordination workflows, clashes, reviews and model status progression.
  • Assist constructability reviews, facilitate off-site manufacturing opportunities, provide site verification, and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives, always aligning responsibilities with established procedures.
  • Supporting all parties working within the BIM processes, collaboration within the team environment to help to achieve efficient project delivery.

Key Tasks, Activities, Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Project Delivery

  • Detail and coordinate 3D elements according to project requirements and department standards.
  • Produce and maintain 3D model files using Revit, Plant 3D, and Advanced Steel, as per current procedures.
  • Create accurate 2D co-ordination and installation drawings.
  • Ensure all model files are routinely checked for coordination and clashes against federated models, following updated clash detection protocols.
  • Follow guidance from the MEP Coordinator & Lead MEP Coordinator on design and coordination matters.
  • Conduct clash detection and resolve issues in submitted files promptly.
  • Build and update federated models daily in line with department practices.
  • Submit all files in the correct format, adhering to department submission standards.
  • Participate in weekly coordination meetings as required.
  • Support all stakeholders involved in the BIM process.
  • Assist with onsite clash resolution in accordance with updated workflows.
  • Verify and prepare layout drawings to meet contract and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and management to resolve issues and communicate drawing information
    clearly.
  • Produce verified record drawings as per department guidelines.
  • Carry out site surveying and verification using approved methods, including point cloud scanning and total station operations.
  • Administer and update all coordination documents, registers, and associated metadata as per departmental procedures.
  • Assist with tender processes and additional drawing requirements from the business unit, ensuring compliance with current standards.

Essential Basic Experience / Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering, Architecture or Design.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience within a BIM\Co-ordination or detailing role.
  • Proficiency in Revit (MEP), Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC/BIM360).
  • Familiarity with ISO 19650 information management principles and CDE workflows.
  • Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to short deadlines.
