Sorting Hub Team Lead - Jumia (Full Time)

The Sorting Hub Team Lead is responsible for the direct supervision, leadership, and performance management of the sorting team. This role ensures the daily operational efficiency of the sorting hub, drives adherence to Jumia's quality and safety standards, and acts as the primary link between the operational floor and management.

What you will be doing

  • Lead and Supervise Staff: Provide direct, hands-on supervision and leadership to Sorting Hub Operators, assigning daily tasks, setting shift priorities, and managing workflow to ensure all operational targets and service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Training and Development: Train, mentor, and coach sorting operators on established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), efficient sorting techniques, and safety protocols, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor individual and team performance metrics (e.g., sorting speed, error rates, throughput volume) and conduct regular feedback sessions, taking corrective action when necessary to maintain high standards.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee and manage all daily operations, ensuring the efficient sorting, handling, and processing of both incoming and outgoing shipments within the hub.
  • Issue Resolution: Act as the first point of escalation for operational issues, quickly resolving problems related to sorting exceptions, handling processes, or equipment disruptions to minimize delays.

What we are looking for candidates who are/have:

  • Post secondary school qualification or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in leading sorting hub operations, logistics, or warehouse management, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Proven ability to operate sorting equipment and machinery, including conveyors, scanners, and sorting systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, make decisions, and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with team members, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using technology tools and systems for tracking, monitoring, and reporting sorting activities.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in sorting hub operations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by operational needs
