Business Development & Partnership Head - Group - Jumia (Full Time)

As a Business Development Head, you will be responsible for identifying, negotiating, and securing high-impact partnerships while ensuring effective operational execution through cross-functional alignment. This role is not limited to deal-making but extends into the operational enablement of each partnership through clear SOP definition, stakeholder coordination, and end-to-end follow-through to drive sustainable revenue growth.

What you will be doing

Strategic Opportunity Development & Business Growth

  • Identify and assess high-impact business opportunities, including new strategic partnerships, market expansions, and innovative growth areas aligned with Jumia’s commercial priorities.
  • Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to inform opportunity evaluation and prioritization, driving decisions based on data and market trends.
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of potential partners, ensuring alignment with business objectives, category strategy, and revenue diversification.

Commercial Negotiation & Contract Management

  • Lead the negotiation processes with partners, securing favorable terms regarding commercial models, pricing, margins, and execution timelines.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders (Commercial, Finance, Legal) to align on partnership parameters, ensuring financial models, margins, and contractual terms are accurate.
  • Translate commercial agreements into clear, actionable SOPs to ensure smooth execution and internal compliance across teams.
  • Define partnership models in collaboration with the commercial team, ensuring they are aligned with the strategic goals and operational requirements.

Operational Execution & Follow-up

  • Own the end-to-end operational onboarding of new partners, from deal closure to go-live, ensuring all systems, processes, and timelines are properly defined and managed.
  • Develop and enforce clear SOPs to guide internal execution, ensuring that all teams (e.g., pricing, supply chain, finance) understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor activation progress, troubleshoot any bottlenecks or issues, and ensure that service level agreements (SLAs) and internal timelines are adhered to.
  • Ensure effective stock planning and availability for international importation, aligning with logistics, fulfillment, and finance teams.

Cross-functional Leadership & Coordination

  • Act as the central point of coordination across commercial, legal, operations, finance, and tech teams to ensure aligned execution and timely delivery of partnership goals.
  • Maintain daily communication with partners to understand their needs, address challenges, and ensure their success with Jumia.
  • Analyze and report on partnership performance, including GMV contribution, profitability, and partner activity levels, with a focus on driving continuous improvement.
  • Proactively identify and implement growth opportunities within existing partnerships, maintaining and growing long-term relationships for sustained business success.

Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Regularly report on the status of the partnership pipeline, key performance indicators (KPIs), and outcomes to leadership, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor and track revenue expected from each project, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure profitability and efficiency.
  • Create new SKUs and ensure they are accurately listed in Jumia’s system, collaborating with content teams to ensure accurate representation of partner products.
