What you will be doing:

  • Legal Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing the Company’s activities in Uganda. This may be through continuous legal audits and compliance assistance.
  • Contract Drafting and Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents with suppliers, and other stakeholders. This also includes ensuring that contract terms are adhered to.
  • Regulatory Affairs: Stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations affecting the Company’s operations in Uganda, and work with the Head of Legal to advise management on necessary actions to maintain compliance.
  • Risk Management: Identify legal risks and provide recommendations for risk mitigation strategies to protect the company's interests.
  • Dispute Resolution Management: Manage all aspects of negotiation, litigation, and other dispute resolution proceedings, including case assessment, strategy development, evidence management and coordination with external counsel. This also includes maintaining accurate records of litigation matters, including case updates, correspondence, and billing information, and providing regular reports as required.
  • Corporate Governance: Support corporate governance initiatives and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures across all business operations.
  • Training and Education: Conduct training sessions for employees on legal compliance matters and promote a culture of legal awareness within the organization.
  • Interdepartmental collaboration: Collaborate with other departments within the organization, including operations, finance, commercial, and human resources, to address legal issues and support business initiatives.
  • Legal Operations and Digital Transformation: Work on digital transformation of legal workflows, including contract automation and implementation of legal request tracking systems to improve departmental efficiency.
