
HR Manager - Senegal - Jumia (Full Time)

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on HR Manager to lead and develop our local HR team in Senegal. As the go-to HR leader for the country, you will own all people-related functions, from operational excellence to employee engagement. You will act as a key partner to the Country CEO and the leadership team, driving HR initiatives that support our business, foster a high-performance culture, and ensure a best-in-class employee experience. This role is perfect for a leader who thrives on building, executing, and making a tangible impact. You will be managing a team of 1 HR Operations Specialist.
What you will be doing
HR Leadership & Business Partnership
- Develop and implement HR priorities that directly support Jumia's business objectives in Senegal.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Country CEO and leadership team, providing practical guidance on all people-related matters.
- Represent the HR function in country leadership team meetings, ensuring the people agenda is a core part of the business conversation.
- Manage the country’s HR budget and resources efficiently to deliver on key priorities.
- Act as the key liaison between country operations and the Group CHRO, ensuring local HR initiatives are aligned with our global HR framework.
HR Operations and Compliance
- Guarantee the accuracy and integrity of all HR data across our systems.
- Oversee the HR Operations team to ensure employee records are maintained with the highest standards of completeness and confidentiality.
- Ensure timely and accurate HR reporting to both Group HR and country leadership.
- Serve as the ultimate authority on Senegalese labour law, ensuring full compliance with all local regulations and Jumia policies.
Talent Management
- Oversee all talent acquisition, development, and retention initiatives to attract and grow the best talent.
- Own the entire employee lifecycle, managing employee relations and performance management effectively.
- Drive performance and capability building across all departments.
Employee Engagement
- Champion the employee voice by leading the "Jumia Barometer" engagement survey process, from analysis to creating and executing impactful action plans with the leadership team.
- Drive key engagement initiatives that strengthen our organizational culture and make Jumia Senegal an exceptional place to work.
Learning & Development
- Implement centrally developed L&D programs, skillfully adapting them to meet the specific needs of the Senegalese context.
- Coordinate the effective delivery of all training initiatives within the country.
- Identify local learning needs and provide valuable input to the Group L&D team to shape future programs.
- Track and report on training completion and effectiveness to demonstrate impact.
What we are looking for
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
- Local Expertise: In-depth, expert knowledge of Senegalese labour law and HR best practices is mandatory.
- Hands-on Approach: A proactive, operational mindset with a strong sense of ownership and a passion for execution.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or HR certification is a "plus".
- Industry Background: Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment such as e-commerce, technology, or FMCG is highly preferred.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build a high-performing HR team.
- Communication: Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Languages: Full professional fluency in both French and English (written and spoken) is essential for this role.
- Data-Driven: Proficiency in using HRIS and leveraging data analytics to inform decisions.
