Financial Controller - Retail

Within this broader business, our retail operation plays a key role in how our brand comes to life for customers. To support this, we are seeking a Financial Controller focused on the retail division, based at our HQ in Durban, reporting into the Finance Manager. In this role, you will support the execution of retail financial processes, ensuring accurate reporting, controls and analysis across stores. You will work closely with retail operations and the broader finance team to ensure financial information reliably reflects trading activity and supports effective retail execution.

This is a hands‑on role well suited to someone comfortable working in a fast‑moving retail environment and getting into the detail. The focus of the role is on enabling strong retail performance through accurate financial reporting, monitoring and operational support.

As the Financial Controller supporting the retail division, your key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing accurate, timely retail financial reports for review and consolidation
• Assisting with retail budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring inputs align with trading realities and assumptions
• Supporting financial oversight of retail performance, with a clear understanding of turnover, margins, stock and operating costs
• Monitoring sales and profitability across stores, identifying variances and escalating risks or trends to the Retail Finance Manager
• Translating trading activity into clear and accurate financial reports to support operational decision‑making
• Working closely with retail operations, sales, demand planning and central finance teams to ensure alignment and data integrity
• Supporting investigations into margin movements, stock efficiency and cost control
• Applying and maintaining financial controls across the retail operation in line with group frameworks
• Ensuring consistency, accuracy and compliance in retail finance processes and reporting

 Skills and qualifications required:

• Relevant financial qualification (e.g. CA(SA), CIMA, or an equivalent recognised qualification)
• Proven experience in a Financial Controller or similar finance execution role
• Experience within a retail or multichannel consumer business is highly advantageous
